Abandoned Ferrari!!! (I’m not joking!)

Someone seems to go have abandoned a top of the range red Ferrari outside my property. It’s parked haphazard and has been there 24 hrs! It’s not my neighbours . . . Stolen do we think?!

Maybe just bad parking? 24 hours isn't long, you could call 101 and I guess they could check if reported stolen.

Apparently stolen cars are dumped for a few days in case they have a tracker. They wait to see if the car is found - if not then they will take. Worth seeing if reported stolen

I was told they'd normally wait 24 hours to check a tracker wasn't installed. For a valuable car. Unless the car was taken from someone not yet aware (away on holiday or business) I'd have thought if there was a tracker it would have been found by now. But if they knew their victim was away they might wait longer. What they don't want is the eventual destination garage to be located with a tracker.

Checked on car check U.K. and there is a stolen report on it however nooone from 101 is answering, Met live chat is down and no one answering emails. 

It’s parked outside 513A lordship lane, next to Westminster carpets if someone can get through to the police. I’ll keep trying.

Would phoning 999 be considered not suitable? What are you supposed to do?

Yes, phone 999. Considering the cost of a Ferrari even the Met might bother, it would help their statistics to recover it.

A 25-year old Ferrari is probably worth a lot less than many newer cars on the streets locally (£40k-ish, I’m guessing?). I notice the tax is up in a fortnight.

It's a 360 Spider, so worth over £60k, more if it has the H gate gearbox, and it's one of the first manufactured.

It's an appreciating classic, and only MOT'd last week.

Does anyone know if there is any legal basis to the 'Finders Keepers' rule?

Is the occupant of 513a Lordship Lane in North London wondering when the bloody garage is going to drop off their car? It's been a week since they took it for an MoT...

Having just checked again, it only got its new ticket (MOT) on Thursday, then turned up on Lordship Lane on Friday, reported as stolen

On top of a happy keeper, I suspect there'll be a very relieved owner of an MOT centre somewhere, now that it's reappeared.

Well, quite.

And if someone doesn't claim it soon, it could well be on its way again. Ferrari, like ALFA and Maserati, was owned by FIAT at the time this one was made, and the less important bits - such as the locks -  came straight out of the FIAT parts bin. It's really quite a nickable car.

I'm actually a bit disappointed it's turned out to be stolen.

I quite fancied the idea that an aging Italian playboy had his passions so inflamed by something he saw on Lordship Lane that he simply abandoned his Ferrari.

Have Bell's Kitchens got a sale on at the moment?

"Isn't a car of interest" but reported stolen?

That's bonkers, surely?

Has it been stolen or not? Did they say why it wasn't a "car of interest"?

Had it been stolen but already recovered by the owner, who has now parked it outside your house?

Had  it been stolen but the owner got his sixty grand from the insurance so no longer cares, and the police don't care about it as the thieves have abandoned it?

Or don't care because they can't catch the thieves unless they find them driving it?

Any other theories? Surely if it had been reported stolen the police might at least want to let the owner know where it was?

It seems a bit of an odd car to steal anyway,  being rather noticeable!

Well, that was my initial thought too, but having re-read the thread, it seems that the car was left outside Westminster Carpets.

Maybe even middle-aged Lotharios can't ignore the low, low prices in their 'Remnants, Offcuts & Roll-End Sale'.

Because 5 to 1, the key will fit. 

I'm out of the country, watching the cricket, just now but if you can get it down to the Catford/Sydenham borders in the next couple of hours, I've got a mate who can 'look after' it. It'll be at Tilbury docks by 6 o'clock.

The car is neither abandoned nor stolen! (Nor ever has been, so not sure why that has been suggested).

It is mine, I collected it from service (and MOT as identified by some on here) on Friday, driving home it had a bit of a hissy fit and broke down! AA attended on Friday, could not recover it until this morning.

Spoken to the nice people inside Westminster carpet on Friday who couldn’t have been kinder, I moved the car back from the doors of the property as best I could without blocking more parking spaces.

Recovery should be here imminently. Apologies for any inconvenience.

That's a helpful update. I hope you get it recovered and repaired without further difficulty. Annoying it should have happened just after a service. At least no one could drive it away in the meantime!

I'm glad you got it sorted. As the former owner of quite a few Italian cars, they can be a bit challenging, can't they?

Just for my own curiosity, it must have been one of the first RHDs off the line, mustn't it?

And is it the F1 or H gate 'box?
