Local Ab Fab "celeb" and stand up calling ball ED businesses for crowdfunding

But it shouldn't have been, Newboots. It's just a sodding request for crowd funding for my next show. What's so odd about that? Sadly, it was hijacked by the usual suspects, and descended into chaos... Never mind, eh?

I'm trying to count posts that might be seen as "cluttering". Perhaps Lady Norwood's first post (but then she gave money) and Red Devil's very short one.

Where are all the "usual suspects"?

What a strange reaction, buddug.

And why does Helen Lederer (above) refer to herself in third person?

Ted Max. How are you helping here? So many people - i.e. old farts - came on, who knew nothing about crowd funding. And they were probably people who could offer nothing of value anyway. That's what cluttered things up. Helen was hoping to attract local businesses who might benefit from her input. It wasn't to be. She's gone.

I am really shocked at the responses of East Dulwich, you want to consider yourselves as forward thinking and proud to be a community that that is helpful and wants to generate change and further development of the village that you want to call East Dulwich. Yet when a community member that is well known and trying to develop themselves, you totally shun the idea and in essence call this cheap.

Unfortunately this is like a business and without any backing nothing can succeed. This lady is part of the community you so desire, so why not assist in at least encouragement, and show a little respect rather than the venom that has be spouted.

Mason

Wow, Mason. Thank you so much for your input! But you're so right. And Helen can no longer come on this site, it's upset her too much, at a time when she's trying to rally aid. She'll get what she wants, but not from East Dulwich!
No one said cheap! This, Ted Max, was simply a call for crowd funding. How did anyone help in that? On the whole, they didn't. Nothing but negative anti-middle class comment. C'est la vie. Helen will achieve what she needs, but not from East Dulwich!

Well, I do know a bit about crowd funding, but I didn't realise that was being requested from the op. I don't think I was alone in that.

I also didn't realise that Helen Lederer is a local celeb, although I have lived here for 18 years.

The reactions of buddug, HL and Mason just seem wildly disproportionate to the posts being made. I really didn't see any sneering or venom.

It is strange to post this sort of request (as it turned out to be) and expect nothing but unquestioning responses.

I am sorry if anyone is upset though!

Newboots. Forget it. This is too sad. And Helen is upset, so too late for you to say sorry if anyone is upset. She didn't want your empathy, pity or anything. Just some support if you fancied it. But if any local businesses want to support Helen, do feel free!

Just wanted to add that I think most of us get plenty of these requests for crowd funding, or sponsorship, from within our own pool of friends/family/acquaintances, and after a while a sort of "donation fatigue" sets in. Times are hard, even in ED, and perhaps there isn't all that much spare cash sloshing around?

Having said all that, I hope Helen's project gets off the ground, of course I do. I have nothing against her and I'm sure no one else on the forum does either.

Good point newboots, re fatigue. I can understand that. There's a part of the East Dulwich Forum that makes me physically sick. But Helen was appealing to local businesses, not to you lot who can't offer anything. So why did you post, and clutter up her thread? You have nothing to donate, and never will, so why come on here?
Just goes to show what one writes, quotes terms that only suit their needs: Mason wrote: "you totally shun the idea and in essence call this cheap." If you actually read into that and understand what I actually said you would understand, but then you really need intelligence to Understand.
I am not sad, just confused. Someone who was never here has had to go somewhere else because of something they have seen that was never there. Unless there is a page missing to this thread I see no venom (some uncalled for abuse from yourself but no venom), I see no anti middle class comments, I see no hatred. I presume you are trying to be funny or trolling yourself but think you are failing. Not that you are interested in anyone's opinions, just want their cash.

For what it's worth, I couldn't make head nor tail of the original post either.

Does that make me a horrible, horrible person who lives among the like of lovely, lovely people like buddug in East Dulwich?

What an extraordinarily bizarre thread.

I am capable of empathy but you said you/she didn't want empathy you just wanted cash. Why are you asking what it feels like to have no human feeling. I thought to someone of your superior intellect it would be obvious if you have no feeling it doesn't feel like anything, otherwise you would have feeling would you not. Or is that also explained in the missing page of this thread.

If they can't be arsed sorting that, I'm not holding my breath. Even Southwark couldn't screw their numbers up enough to make shifting the post back through circa 15 degrees more than a couple of grand, so there's a drink in it for everyone.
