Traffic on Bonfire Night

Lambeth are providing their usual Brockwell Park firework event on the evening of Tue 5 November.

A number of temporary traffic measures will be in place. These will include a complete closure of the main Herne Hill junction to car traffic between about 19:45 and 20:45 during and at the end of the actual display, to help the safe dispersal of the crowds.

If you are going, it would be best to walk to and from the event. If you are having visitors, tell them to arrive early and leave late - there will be some traffic congestion around Herne Hill mid-evening. Further details of bus service alterations will be on the TfL website.

Was astonished at how many people had disregarded advice on junction closure. I pushed my bike through the junction just before 9 and there was a lot of traffic - cars and buses at a standstill. Lots of dodgy parking in surrounding roads too! The crowds walking seemed cheerful though and whoever sold the light sabres must have made a fortune. Every other kid seemed to have one
I was there with small-ish children and tbh getting in and out was no worse than in prior years - took about 10-15 minutes to get out, but a generally patient and good-natured crowd. Agree the fireworks were excellent - I'd never seen smiley face fireworks before.

Another Brilliant display by Lambeth Council.

Gets better every year.

35 mins to get out the park. (Depended on how near the exit you were)

Everyone in good spirits though. Might of been different had it started to rain.

Well worth the hassle..

I was there too, and yes it was an excellent display yet again (though I think last year's might have been a smidge better).

I did think it was a lot busier than normal though. We weren't that far from the gate and it took 20 minutes to get out. Mr Twirly and I lost the friends we were with moments after entering the park (and we've never had to queue to get in before). I am wondering if it's becoming a victim of it's own success - they hire the team that did the Olympics fireworks, plus it's free whereas a lot of others in South London charge. Is it possible that it will become impracticable over the next year or two?

It wasn't cold though - too many people there for it to get cold!

It was clear earlier on, but it did cloud over towards 8pm we noticed!

At least the rain had stopped, though the grass was a bit soggy and I was glad I had worn my wellies :)

    • There is no other way than to move out. I am in such a situation myself where our neighbours are complete assholes. They breached the Covenants and when we pointed it they said to take them to court if we want.  Unfortunately, they have made our life miserable and we have to move out.    What helped in our situation is having a calm conversation face to face. It only happened after they tasted their own medicine(i know it's mean but nothing else helps).   I know it's unfair but better move out and prioritise your mental health.
    • Thank you so much for the reply. Jeffery turned up a couple of hours ago. I edited title to say found but somehow it didn't save. Thank you so much for going to the trouble of posting this sighting... even if it didn't turn out to be Jeff.  Jeff came running down the street like a bat out of hell and ran into the house. Never been so relieved. Mind you i've been up and down the roads shouting his name out all day. Even in Wingfield street. 🤗
    • I saw a smallish black cat outside 1 Wingfield Street just now.  I am not convinced it was Jeff, the eyes look a little different.
