Hi everybody,

I am newish to the area and since being away for the last 6 months I have returned to a flat battery and an out of date MOT!

As I don't want to drive very far with a jump started battery I would really appreciate any recommendations for garages in the area (most of SE okay), somewhere that could check out my car first then do the MOT, even better!

Thanks for reading,

Harper

Try Knighton Motors, 159-161 Sydenham Road, London SE26. Their telephone no. is 020 87783109. The owner is a very friendly chap.

It is illegal to drive with an expired MOT. However, you can drive to a MOT test centre which you have pre-booked to get an MOT undertaken.

This is just a general recommendation for anyone else looking for a garage, you've probably sorted your problem out.

I can't recommend Blenheim Motors on Blenheim Grove near to Peckham Rye station highly enough - 50 Blenheim Grove, SE15 4QL, Tel 020 7639 0785. They are very friendly and easy to deal with, they give great advice and talk you through the problems. On more than one occasion have saved me money - including today when I took my car to them with a small chunk out of the side of the tire - they explained that it was still safe and roadworthy where more unscrupulous places might have just charged me for a new tire, they persuaded me to put my old car up for sale when I was ready to scrap it and are happy to discuss issues without charging for time. After dealing with other garages and dealerships where they seemed to take advantage and add on services and replacements as standard when doing the MOT I now won't take my car anywhere else.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
