Hello,

Driving westbound on Camberwell New Road, just before Brixton Road junction, cars are allowed to split into 2 lanes just before the lights, where the bus lane temporarily ends - know the bit I mean?

I've had a PCN there before so I know it well - many years ago, I pulled into the left lane too soon and passed through the end of the bus lane. (No buses around, mind you. I find it frustrating that, if there are no buses coming you still can't use your judgement to improve traffic flow, but whatever, them's the rules...)

Anyway, on Saturday lunchtime I was there and I noticed there were no road markings so I took a (potentially badly-judged) guess as to where the bus lane usually ends and then pulled into the left lane. Think I saw a camera flash go off and niece, in front passenger seat, says she saw it too.

We were stopped at the lights anyway, so tried to take some pics of the road, to show no road markings - but not easy and not much time as didn't want to hold up traffic when lights changed.

So - will I be issued a PCN? Have I acually done anything wrong, if there were no road markings? How do I prove there were no markings (haven't been back down CNewRoad but bet the lines have been painted by now) Can I / should I contact Southwark before they contact me?

Thanks people.

Caught out how? That one's clearly sign posted and the lines are there. If you get a ticket there then you just weren't looking I'd have thought.

I thought the cameras which flash are the ones which capture speed infringements ?

The cameras which check (and punish) for bus lane / markings infringements are higher-up, usually on fake lamposts, to achieve a greater 'target' area. If I'm correct, the flash you saw may have been for someone else's infingement i.e. jumping the traffic lights when red etc.

The other (higher-up) cameras, will, as people have already said, just record what they always do and if there's no marking to infringe you should be OK.

Not sure there IS a camera there ?

Either way I never take the chance, I sit like a mug, waiting for 2 mins to inch forward a metre so I can 'legally' turn into an empty left lane whilst no buses are even in sight.

Cameras in buses are at the front I think so behind is fine, in front of may be different.

That's exactly what I do.

Once bitten twice shy.

Caught out/caught. Let's not quibble over semantics.

They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
