Can anyone recommend someone to lay a herringbone parquet floor that doesn't cost ?100 per metre just for the labour!

Try Angelo's Flooring. Family run business of Peckham Park Road, they were recommended to us by an architect who uses them. We found them to be great, friendly & reasonably priced. Their number is 020 7639 3737.

We are Abbey Flooring and have done lots through the Forum over the years, we install, sand and seal parquet blocks in the herringbone pattern with a double block boarder for ?65 per square meter if the job is bigger than 20 sqm.

I laid my own parquet floor; we found the floor on ebay reclaimed from an old school in Romford, cleaned it up ourselves, set it out, laid acoustic matting and plywood, and laid the parquet floor, then hired a sander, varnished and polished it. I'd be happy to advise and give you some pointers if you wanted to do it yourself, its hard work but not impossible and will work out a lot cheaper than hiring someone.
