Schools Direct - advice would be much appreciated!

Hi All,


Calling teachers, trainee teachers, or anybody who can help really.


I'm planning on applying to become a primary school teacher under the Schools Direct programme.


I had planned to take lots of holiday time out of work during 2014 to shadow teachers etc, and then apply in November 2014 for entry in 2015.


However I've very recently discovered that I am going to be out of a job in March, so I am going to apply this November for entry in September 2014.


The problem is that I haven't shadowed anybody yet, which strikes me as a bit of a problem in my application.


Can anybody please help me out? If any teacher would allow me to spend a day shadowing them, that would be really really great. But also any help and advice about how to prepare for an application quickly, that I had planned on spending a year working on......

      Which Dulwich - East/West/Village?

      I wouldn't completely rule out being more central in East Dulwich due to smaller houses - you can definitely get a house the size you need on Crystal Palace Road, for example, (and potentially Fellbrigg or Ulverscroft). CPR has a lot of semi-detached houses that would be roughly 1800 square foot if you include a loft conversion. And the gardens are decent sizes. The top end (IE the end nearer Dulwich Library) is very near Dulwich Park, and the 185, 40 and 197 buses on Lordship Lane go straight to Denmark Hill which gets you into Blackfriars in 12 minutes. It's a lovely walk to St Paul's in the morning, I do it every day. It's very near Dulwich College, Alleyns or JAGs, depending on which school you're referring to! Our son is at DC and he either walks through the park or gets the P13 bus. So that's what I'd do if I was you.

      Megan's on lordship lane are specifically laptop friendly and their WiFi is good enough... (but def use VPN)

      If you are going to use free WiFi I suggest also using a VPN which will offer you some security - 'free' WiFi will often be open WiFi, if offered without any password protection. Even with that, a VPN offers more security. If you are a BT or EE broadband customer you can choose to access BT or EE broadband capacity where available (if you offer such access to others). This is more secure.
