Mata is not the answer to their woes, that's the first thing. Secondly you have to ask why would Mourinho let him go? Secondly I find it starnge that the announcement came on the day of a semi final, and shortly after the announcement that the share price had plummeted. Coincidental?

I think Mourinho let him go because after last weekend's result he no longer sees Man Utd as a title threat, let alone top four.

It's a very good buy for Man Utd and there will be more on the way in the summer. The whole team needs rebuilding and the signing of Juan Mata is as good a place to start as any. He is top class.

I think he's a cracking player, and I'm surprised that Mourinho hasn't fancied him, but he's a man who knows his own mind, and I guess Mata must just be a square peg for his round hole plans. Think he'll be a great buy for Man U, but not sure he'll be enough to sort their current issues out.

Mourinho has allowed this to become personal between him and the player, not very professional, in the same way that AVB excluded certain players at Spurs. Still chavs loss is someone elses gain.

I'm surprised, esp as we wouldn't sell Rooney to them in the suumer, but very pleased that Chelsea have agreed to sell us Mata. Mourinho, like his style of play, is a very pragmatic person. There are probably a few reasons why he sold Mata. He's just not a Mourinho type player for starters. Mourinho probably already has a replacement lined up, a player more in keeping with his style of play. Mata was popular with other players, and his situation was allegedly causing unrest in the dressing rooom. By selling Mata, Mourinho has nipped that in the bud. Chelsea also have to sell to buy these days because of FFP rules, they don't generate enough income off the playing field to keep on buying like they did in the past. I also think Mata has been the model pro at Chelsea, there's obviously some mutual respect between the club and player. Mata didn't kick up a huge public fuss, put in a transfer request etc, and Chelsea have responded by granting his wish to play football somewhere else...?37m also helps.

...and the rearranged game with City is at the end of the season, and we have to give them a guard of honour!

The Mata signing smacks of a knee jerk reaction by a club to the current woes it is going through. Mata is a good player no doubt, but 37m to 40m depending on what you read, is over the odds and not the answer to the current predicament. For me it's just the club trying to deflect the spotlight currently being shone on their woeful home record,financial results, and falling share prices. Fancy Bendtner for ?25m?

I stand by these thoughts now. It was the biggest decision they had to make since replacing Busby and they allowed SAF to choose his own man.


In terms of whether the name of this thread holds true long term (and remember I was quoting a MU fan) it will be a case of not repeating the same mistake when replacing Moyes, which already seems inevitable.


Unfortunately some of the attraction of MU to the very top managers will already have been watered down by the drop in form, although some of the managers whose star is on the rise will probably see it as a better opportunity now there has been a bit of a lowering of expectations.

If only football was that simplistic Mick. Liverpool also have a manager who hasn't won anything, yet they're doing very well...

      Really? Yes you are probably right as I know from personal experience with Guys… as I claiming travel costs back, that no one told me I could claim! Left hand does not know what right hand is doing regarding admin..  If they charged people for wasting overstretched staff in A& E as in not urgent just might deter people from wasting precious time…. But then you need interpreters, to explain if language is a barrier and admin staff to administer..  Correct me if I am wrong but is there not a train from Denmark Hill or East Dulwich which goes to London Bridge? Would be faster than 2 buses I would have thought.    Oh, forgot about Tessa Jowell but thought you needed GP referral in which case, that would be the place to go rather than a bigger hospital. Know there is one in Beckenham and you can call and they will give you an idea as to wait time…..same I hope at TJ…assuming they answer phone.. If one really things about it…too many  people in London for example and to few hospitals…

      I don’t think it’s licensed for Sundays. It is licences for Fridays, but there hasn’t been anyone there on a Friday for years. So I doubt it. i think there’s a market at the Horniman on Sundays. Also pretty sure there’s one outside Herve Hill station on a Sunday.

      I believe there is a minor injuries department at Guys, though I may have misremembered. Not very convenient for SE22 now the 40 no longer goes near. You have to get 2 buses or a train. Charging people (not sure if you mean financially or legally) would waste a lot more time, I would have thought? And  a bad bruise could be serious, depending on the cause and possibly other symptoms.
