Another burglary to report - Friern Road/Goodrich Road Junction.

Forced entry via a double-locked (!!) sash window at the front of a terraced house in the middle of the night - didn't appear to come upstairs luckily where 5 of us were sleeping - none of us heard anything.

Nicked my car the b*stards, and a few electronics - will post about that in separate thread.

Police and CSI team have been down. Professional job in the middle of the night by someone who knew we would've been in, so they are not expecting to find any prints/DNA.

The CCTV kit I bought over the weekend is still in the packaging on the lounge floor - can't believe it!!!

Jesus, that's bloody scary that they were able to get in a double locked sash window. Is there nothing we can do to make ourselves safe? Feeling very nervous about going to bed now. I hate that our room is the floor above my son's. A friend suggested placing a baby monitor downstairs so you can hear if anyone comes in.

I don't know if it will help but do you have an outside security light with a movement sensor? I can't help but feel that if they were trying to break in under the glare of a light, they might think twice. Its only one small thing but everything helps...

Really sorry to hear of your break in.

Jacqui.

I don't think burglars really worry about the 'emotional impact' on their victims. 'Unscrupulous' I think is the word.

    • The SSRS app (Safer seas and rivers service), is worth downloading. It gives you real time updates on water safety / sewage discharges. It's pretty eye opening / alarming, how regularly areas are not safe, but reassuring when you do get the 'all clear'.
    • The programme was brilliant and makes me wary now of sea paddling as so many areas affected. My daughter was working at a bank when privatisation of utility companies were floated. Bank advised its staff that only x number of shares could be purchased by individuals as Government rules at that time. She reported that certain people were seeking double and triple shares. Bank told her to ignore the guidelines as those customers had thousands of pounds in the bank. She was so disgusted at the banks attitude she handed in her notice, She decided that the financial world was too corrupt. Two degrees later - she now works in the NHS as an OT in mental health unit.
