I just got a server error. I can't for a second believe the EDF slashdot effect brought it down!!

Though I see that the reason for the Satoshi's current divisibility seems to be because of processor architecture (or more likely os) limitations

Exactly - like every other currency, it has infinite divisibility - the Satoshi is just a reflection of the limitation in the datatype of current implementations.

"Bitcoin, offers a simple and stylish solution: infinite divisibility"

Why???

"... Bitcoins can be divided up and trade into as small of pieces as one wants, so no matter how valuable Bitcoins become, one can trade them in practical quantities"

From the FAQs of the same source: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/FAQ

My partner bought ?70 worth that made ?20 in a couple of weeks then the value dropped again then it went up again. We can spend more on a 'swift half' down the pub, so it's not exactly an investment but you don't need a few hundred quid to just have a go! If you want to make (or lose) serious money then yeah.

Another option is mining - well beyond me but I have a friend who does it successfully: http://qz.com/154877/by-reading-this-page-you-are-mining-bitcoins/

    • This might be a better picture.
    • I don't think anyone would object to the examples you have given being given space in the noticeboard (Theatre Peckham is a registered charity) and I think reflect the original intentions behind their introduction. I would not like to see advertisements for purely commercial enterprises e.g yoga studios, cafes, tradesmen which would not be in keeping with the original purpose.
    • Multiple complaints and reports of the leak but no barrier as of 4.30pm today. Shockingly bad form especially as they had TW engineers on site across the road this morning. Fix one, another bursts. Lots of residents without water in this hot weather, just terrible...
    • I agree... perhaps you could also write to our local councillors to point these things out. Never know they might actually reply! Thanks for your help speaking to Monica. She may hopefully have useful contacts re obtaining a key. Completely agree - what's on (which could include some small businesses  such as Theatre Peckham, which I think may be a charity or at least community not for profit? And school fairs type thing..) plus anything the community would find useful, such as free events for the elderly (LinkAge are active in ED and surrounding areas) and lots more.
