Wedding suppliers recommended

I got married in October 2013 and we used some great local suppliers that really do deserve a shout out.

It's hard to rave about these people without it sounding like a plug but given that they were all really reasonably priced I thought it was the least I could do.

Amanda Roberts from East Dulwich did the hair and make-up for me, my mum and bridesmaids and was absolutely excellent. Initially I didn't want professional make up but she really made a big difference. I didn't really want to look 'made up' and she does a really natural look which was just what I wanted. Her and her colleague Shelley were completely unflappable on the day as well and complete professionals.

For flowers we used the fantastic Wendy at AG Flowers in Nunhead. She was absolutely superb and really reasonable. Again, a total pro.

And the band Bare Groove (based in Crystal Palace) were just amazing (although they have a terrible name). They had a full brass section and, again, were really reasonably priced. They were just brilliant. So much energy, fantastic classic soul songs and provided their own lights/sound/DJ in between. I was terrified that we would end up with a band playing Tina Turner or some really cheesy songs so was delighted that they were just amazing.

It's so easy when you get busy in the run up to the wedding to just look up companies online that are based in the West End but we wanted to support local businesses where we could and they delivered over and above anything we could have expected!

If you're reading this - thanks guys!

I got married in central London in February 2014 but having lived in East Dulwich for so long, I wanted to use local suppliers where I could and would thoroughly recommend them.

For flowers, I used Wendy at AG Flowers in Nunhead (http://www.a-gflowers.co.uk) and she was an absolute star. Despite the short notice I gave her, she really took the time to understand all the elements of my big day to find the best colours and style for me. She met with me to show me flowers in the shop first along with pictures of other options that I could order in time and even dropped samples round to me in advance. The whole experience of choosing, ordering & delivery was hassle free and the prices were reasonable but it was really Wendy's personal touch & expertise that were so invaluable. I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted but with Wendy's help, I ended up with the perfect flowers - take a look at the photo.

For hair and make up, Amanda Roberts is definitely your go to woman: http://www.hairandmakeup4u.com

I had a style in mind for my hair which she totally made happen and for the bridesmaids, she helped us refine our vague ideas into something gorgeous. As well as being an absolute professional when it comes to hair and make up, she was also so patient and hardworking. She did hair and make up for four bridesmaids and me and remained completely calm despite people arriving late or needing make up re-doing after a few emotional moments! Amanda really took the time to get to know me and create a look that fitted with me & my wedding day and I would thoroughly recommend her.

Finally, a bit further afield but might be helpful for other London weddings is Jennie at Route Master Hire: http://www.routemasterhire.com. As well as having beautiful classic red buses, Jennie is super helpful. She helped us plan an amazing route from the ceremony to the reception along the Thames which our guests still rave about! She lets you order fizz and send it to her, then brings it chilled on the day with glasses and we also used the bus for the bridal party to arrive at the ceremony which was great fun.

These people really went the extra mile for me so really recommend them. Message me for any further details or pictures.

Thanks, Natalie

I can also recommend Amanda Roberts. Very talented and always gets great reviews from her clients.

Can I also add Suzanne James an excellent local wedding and event catering business http://www.suzannejames.co.uk/ who is also the preferred caterer for many local venues including The Horniman Conservatory, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Greenwich Museum, The Garden Museum, St Johns Museum and more.

I'm also a local Wedding and Event Photographer although I also photograph weddings all over the UK and Europe. I'm fully booked for the summer but I do have availability for late 2014 and next year. http://www.lorenzophotography.co.uk/

Thank you

    • Pointless unless Southwark will make money from this being erected.  If that’s the case, it will be allowed.
    • Yes, there's no way anyone would want a Wi-Fi hub in Lordship Lane. Absolutely pointless. Anyone who actually wants or needs to communicate or access data will already have their 5G phone or satellite phone on them to get fast data. And of course we are lucky that we have such a strong and unbroken mobile signal from all suppliers locally. With no dead spots.
    • I see from the Site Notice https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/files/B867B0B45973C03BE4D45CE4513BDE35/pdf/25_AP_2825-SITE_NOTICE-4151698.pdf that the "Comment by" date is 5 November. My understanding is that comments submitted after that date can and ?will still be considered if the decision-making hasn't yet been done; so I wouldn't let the date in itself deter you if you  want to comment now.   Was the site notice actually posted near the location, btw? Does the hub have any claimed functions other than advertising?
    • Whilst reading about what was Poundland, I saw that BT has applied to install (block the pavement with) one of its large screen advertising 'street hubs' outside the building. This seems like a terrible idea in my opinion - others may disagree - but you might want to look at the planning application and comment. There is still a day or two to do so.  Here's the relevant application 25/AP/2825 https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=T3G4H5KBH1500 and how it will look https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/files/BDF327FA0103A31946387A251B9C9D45/pdf/25_AP_2825-ELEVATION_PLAN-4143504.pdf
