calling experienced parents of CMPI toddlers.

I am after a birthday cake for my sons 2nd birthday. He is allergic to cows milk protein and soya intolerant so I am after any alternatives. Any recommendations for a bakery or recepies for home making (gulp) would be very gratefully received. Many Thanks in advance.

I can help, my son is the same (now six and with 2 younger siblings, so I've done many dairy free cakes!!). I usually do a chocolate fudge cake which is pretty foolproof and can be whittled into trains/hedgehogs whatever fairly easily. Let me know if you would like the recipe.

But most recently I have discovered a vegan sponge which actually works. It's on this blog - - - the page is about a complicated mousse cake but I just used the sponge recipe. The vegan buttercream is nice too - I use pure sunflower marg as the base (sainsbury's).

Hold on I just realised you are not needing egg free - that makes things much easier! Any recipe will do fine, just substitute any butter with Pure sunflower spread, and any milk with oat milk, formula or whatever you usually have.

Hi, For the lazy Mummy option :-). My son also has a CMPI and I have used Ms Cupcake in Brixton (near the market)http://www.mscupcake.co.uk/ . The cakes are super sweet to my palate but my one year old son, his 3 year old brother and their friends definitely approved.
Another option is making an olive oil cake - no need for butter etc. Usually fruit is used to sweeten, but there are chocolate cakes that can be made. Come out moist and delicious! Easy recipe in the baby-led weaning book for an apple cake. Probably won't be popular for a birthday though!

    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.

    • It's time to ditch your team, otherwise you could be seen to supporting your owners dog whistle comments (aka racist). Fortunately you can support a local team, I understand that Palace have pretty right on fans, and you have Dulwich Hamlet and Peckham Town too. If you genuinely are from the North West then Everton fans are well rated for their politics (ignore the paving over paradise/loss of UNESCO world heritage status), and of course FC United of Manchester. Salford Town not a bad bet either. For those who are glory hunters dare I say over the river in the North London library aka Emirates (shame they don't rhyme) you have both the likelihood of a title this season and a very multicultural fan base. If you want to be really cool the Welsh speaking team Club Cymric, Forest Green Rovers, or AS Livorno in Italy, an anti-fascist team
