I need some advice please regarding my 4 year old daughter who is currently at Rosemead nursery. She has also been offered reception places this year for st dunstans, sydenham high and herne hill. We live in dulwich and we really like japs and alleyns but it appears very difficult to gain entry to both these schools and we are not sure which of the above schools may prepare her later on for their assessments. Has anyone had experience with these schools and entry then later on to either jags or alleyns? Have you got any recommendations please?

She is well settled at rosemead however if necessary we would rather get her in the right school now than later on.

Many thanks for any advice or recommendations.

Hi

My daughter used to go to herne hill School and we loved it. Great teachers and a lovely atmosphere. After kindergarten we decided to apply for JAPS an alleyns and was offered JAPS. Very happy with the school, it is a Competitive school but our daughter is excelling and we are happy.

Herne hill school is great but only goes to 7

By Sydenham High do you mean the independent girls' school? If so, this goes up to 18 so you wouldn't have to worry about entrance exams for other independents at 7, 11 or 13. Or do you prefer JAGS/Alleyn's to Sydenham?

Hi SE22newmum,

HH appears to be a great school, we loved it when we visited and was offered a place. We were very tempted but the school run eventually put me off. Apart from the traffic, parking is very difficult. I have a close friend who has two boys there and she hates the school run, it drives her crazy every day.

In terms of preparing children for the 7+ assessment they are excellent and give good advice on the school they feel appropriate for your child. It does seem to be an academic school but then this is necessary to get kids into the next level of school at 7.

    • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
