How much to get a gas cooker connected ?

how much have ou paid to get a gas cooker connected ?

I am simply replacing one cooker with another, could do it myself but apparently it's now illegal to do that.

It's a straightforward bayonet fitting I believe.

How much have tou paid to have this done ?

Hi KK

You are NOT allowed to even disconnect the bayonet.

Needs to be a Gas Safe Engineer.

Normally they will do a gas pressure test BEFORE they disconnect to insure there are no existing leaks.

Then after connecting the new appliance they need to repeat the test.

The second test should also be done even if a new appliance is not being connected as the seals in

the bayonet connecter can leak due to poor seating.

Each test lasts about 15-20 mins to insure there are no slow leakage.

I had to go through this procedure in 2012 and it cost approx. ?90.00

That was a disconnect only. No new appliance fitted as flat was being vacated.

We had to get a gas safe engineer to replace our hob it costed 120? . make sure to ask the engineer for his gas safe ID . Be safe then sorry

now you know, if it's your own house and a bayonet fitting it would take two minutes. After fitting,clober the bayonet with washing up liqued if it bubbles pay someone to come round and charge ?120.

KK.. Please ignore the above advise. It doesn't matter whose house it is.

Not good enough to just test the connector

If there is a leak in your new appliance you will not be aware unless it is properly tested.

If your house blows up, you will probably destroy your neighbour's houses as well.

I need to have a gas hob connected (and the old one taken out, which was installed 25 years ago with a flexible hose fitting - works fine but not compliant with current regs apparently). Any recommendations for a gas safe engineer?

If it works fine, regardless of current regs, why change it. Most houses aren't up to current regs with regards to electricity but nobody rushes to get new fuseboards or wiring when the regs change.
