How much to get a gas cooker connected ?

Hi KK

You are NOT allowed to even disconnect the bayonet.

Needs to be a Gas Safe Engineer.

Normally they will do a gas pressure test BEFORE they disconnect to insure there are no existing leaks.

Then after connecting the new appliance they need to repeat the test.

The second test should also be done even if a new appliance is not being connected as the seals in

the bayonet connecter can leak due to poor seating.

Each test lasts about 15-20 mins to insure there are no slow leakage.

I had to go through this procedure in 2012 and it cost approx. ?90.00

That was a disconnect only. No new appliance fitted as flat was being vacated.

KK.. Please ignore the above advise. It doesn't matter whose house it is.

Not good enough to just test the connector

If there is a leak in your new appliance you will not be aware unless it is properly tested.

If your house blows up, you will probably destroy your neighbour's houses as well.

    • No problem. I think it is also worth saying, in light of the recent Panorama programme, that we, at No-Flies, are completely independent and do not have referral arrangements with solicitors or surveyors. We believe that both buyers and sellers should be free to make their own choices on who they wish to instruct - though we are happy to provide recommendations and will try to warn people off firms with whom we have had previous bad experiences.
