Miramum
Advise please. My daughter has just done the 7+. She has got places at Sydenham and Rosemead. I am not that impressed with RM and we also have the v likely option of a place at the Hamlet.Should I take a place at Sydenham or RM inorder to get her into a selcetive school at 11 +( and save my money !) or should I go to the Hamlet and tutor her if needs be?I really liked the Hamlet but they were very clear that they don't tutor for the 11+. Growlybear
My experience with Dulwich Hamlet was that the quality of teaching was so high that children were very well prepared for the Key Stage 2 SATs, and many of the children in my daughter's year group went on to public schools and selective state schools. My daughter was offered a place at Newstead Wood and was also offered maximum scholarships for Alleyn's and Old Palace without private tutoring. bornagain
The Hamlet is an excellent school but may not be everyone's cup of tea. The quality of teaching and curriculum is first class. I am sure that for many children the Hamlet education will be more than sufficient to prepare them for selective and private education. Perhaps because of its location, the school does not feel like many other London state primary schools. It was quite a culture shock (for me!) when my child started there. The school is not that diverse and the ethos is quite prep school-like and to my mind rather old fashioned. However this may be a major plus for you!
