Guest
I heard rumours that developers are interested in regenerating the Dog Kennel Hill Estate (opposite Sainsburys) and building some posh flats in its place. Is there any truth to these rumours? Does anyone have any details? As someone who lives nearby I am interested to know whats on the cards! Blue Dan
AimeeThe development of the Dog Kennel Hill Estate has been on the cards for some time. Southwark council sought planning permission to sell off some of the blocks to private developers, and use the money raised to develop/ spruce up the remaining blocks. Infact, at least one of the blocks has been done up. So it will be left half private/ newly built properties and half spruced up council owned blocks I believe. About 12 months ago there were lots of tenants campaigning against the sale to private developers (of the blocks near the railway line) and I haven't heard any more since. Its all part of the local government scheme to regenerate council property - but they needed to raise money first. I used to live in Ivanhoe Road and kept more of an eye on it but moved 12 months ago to nearer Lordship LaneHope that helpsDan Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41-dog-kennel-hill-estate-development/#findComment-258 Share on other sites

Guest
Southwark Council are starting the long planned regeneration of the Dog Kennel Hill Estate in 2007. This is to bring the flats in line with the Government's Better Homes scheme (or something along those lines anyway). The plan is to replace windows, fix roofs and close in currently open walkways so that all blocks are accessable by door entry system only. All council owned properties will also have new kitchens and bathrooms fitted where necessary. All this will be done at the cost of around ?19k to each of us lucky lucky leaseholders - I know it will all be to the benefit of the estate but ?19k?????? Can you tell I'm pleased???I'd love to hear from any other leaseholders on the Estate who have also received an estimate of the cost of works recently.......RegardsH Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41-dog-kennel-hill-estate-development/#findComment-514 Share on other sites
Guest
I can sympathise Handel - we used to live as leaseholders in a Camden council block - and had to pay ?10k for some new windows!! The annoying thing is we didnt get anywhere near as much as the council tenants - e.g. the kitchens and bathrooms that you talk about - councils also have a way of making the explanation of cost breakdowns absolutely inexplicable - so you cant help feeling like you are subisiding. I would challenge as much as you can and try and attend any walk in sessions the council have - whilst we did not have much impact we were able to influence hte building of a playground on our doorstep (which acutally devalued our property and yes you guessed it - we had to contribute to the costs!)The thing you have to keep thinking of is that it will in the long run increase the value - although whether the benefit is proportional or not is another matter.... Good Luck! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/41-dog-kennel-hill-estate-development/#findComment-719 Share on other sites
