Hi

we are a family of 3, live in ED and absolutely love it.

However we are considering moving in order to be able to buy a bigger place, in view of an expanded family.. ED property prices are just crazy!

Does anybody know how Crystal Palace is and how schools are?

Thanks for any comment/advice

Hello, I really like Crystal Palace. I don't live there but for years I've used the area on my running routes! It has a very nice feel. I think it would be a great place to live. The high street is lovely, great park, sports centre and transport on the overground is meant to be good.

Hi there. I moved to Sydenham Hill last November from East Dulwich. It wasn't an easy move, as like you, I loved East Dulwich. Then I discovered Crystal Palace! Its fab and will definitely move there when my contract ends! Its got a fantastic park with a dinosaur trail and city farm, fab antique shops, great cafes/bars/restaurants, which are all buzzing even during weeknights. Really nice chilled out vibe as you're walking around the area. Sometimes ED can be a bit hectic and stuck-up but Crystal Palace is a little gem.

Haven't looked into schools yet but heard there are a few great ones to choose from e.g. Eliot Bank and Kelvin Grove.

Good luck!

Eliot Bank and kelvin grove will be out of the catchment area as crystal palace comes under another borough.Sydenham HIll is just about still in the borough of lewisham.Virtual Norwood forum may get you more info on schools as crystal palace is on the border of 3 boroughs.

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.

Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
