I hate these so subjective threads where everyone knows who the Greatest Guitarist is, including me (though my entry was based on what my big brother told me years ago). Anyway, here's someone's top 100. Is your's there?

Rolling Stone - Its been mentioned already AM.

Jeez Mick I didn't even mention the name myself. Besides if you wait long enough everyone will have been mentioned several times. I think I'll arrange a competition to decide who is the Forum's overall favourite Greatest Guitarist. I will have an open (not seeded) draw and everyone mentioned so far and up to midnight tonight will be included. So get nominating if you haven't already.

Now there's an idea, AM !! Your quite right, if/when the thread has run for a while, most will have been mentioned several times. A lot of "usual suspects" mentioned on here, which I said wasn't the aim as some of them cannot possibly have their talent questioned. Did post earlier in the thread that really I was looking for guitarists that are maybe forgotten (so great rather than greatest), but it is all interesting, and fascinating, to read others viewpoints.

Freely admit, KK, had not heard of him, checked him out on Wiki, looks to have had a bit of a pedigree with associations with Fleetwood Mac and Alexis Korner. Gonna check him out on you-tube when I get a moment. Thanks for the suggestion, good to come across new artists ( well new to me I mean)

No, but for me they are worthy of note for pushing their instruments into new sonic territory and working as a team to create that sound.

Ha, brilliant. Nice one Nashoi.

Funnily enough it makes me think of the condescending muso reviewers on Pitchfork. I know when they write a scathing review then its probably worth listenig to.

"Here a jazzy introduction gives way to a driving (albeit monotonous) guitar-dominated background for Plant's strained and unconvincing shouting (he may be as foppish as Rod Stewart, but he's nowhere near so exciting, especially in the higher registers)."

Savage!!

or of an undisputed classic

""Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" alternates between prissy Robert Plant's howled vocals fronting an acoustic guitar and driving choruses of the band running down a four-chord progression while John Bonham smashes his cymbals on every beat. The song is very dull in places (especially on the vocal passages), very redundant, and certainly not worth the six-and-a-half minutes the Zeppelin gives it."

Ha, they did something to personally offend this chap!

    • I am keeping my fingers crossed the next few days are not so loud. I honestly think it is the private, back garden displays that are most problematic as, in general, there is no way of knowing when and where they might happen. For those letting off a few bangers in the garden I get it is tempting to think what's the harm in a few minutes of 'fun', but it is the absolute randomness of sudden bangs that can do irreparable damage to people and animals. With organised events that are well advertised there is some forewarning at least, and the hope is that organisers of such events can be persuaded to adopt and make a virtue of using only low noise displays in future.
    • There was an excellent discussion on Newscast last night between the BBC Political Editor, the director of the IFS and the director of More In Common - all highly intelligent people with no party political agenda and far more across their briefs than any minister I've seen in years. The consensus was that Labour are so unpopular and untrusted by the electorate already, as are the Conservatives, that breaking the manifesto pledge on income tax wouldn't drive their approval ratings any lower, so they should, and I quote, 'Roll The Dice', hope for the best and see where we are in a couple of years time. As a strategy, i don't know whether I find that quite worrying or just an honest appraisal of what most governments actually do in practice.
    • They are a third of the way through their term Earl. It's no good blaming other people anymore. They only have three years left to fix what is now their own mess. And its not just lies in the manifesto. There were lies at the last budget too, when they said that was it, they weren't coming back for more tax and more borrowing. They'd already blamed the increase in NIC taxes on what they claimed was a thorough investigation. They either knew everything then or they lied about that too .   They need to stop lying and start behaving. If they don't the next government won't be theirs, it will be led by Nigel Farage.  They have to turn it round rapidly. Blaming other people, telling lies and breaking promises isn't going to cut it any more.
