Anyone had laser eye surgery done locally?

I'm thinking of giving it a go, but would prefer not to have to go the centre of town to have it done. Would be brilliant to have it done locally or towards Bromley way. Has anyone had it done locally?

Failing that, has anyone had it done and could recommend their surgeon?

Many thanks.

Hello Sarahew,

I had it done on Tuesday morning and here I sit, typing without glasses for the first time in over 10 years. I cannot recommend my surgeon highly enough. Mr Carp at the London Vision Clinic, here:

The whole process was stress free. Their tests are very thorough and take hours. The actual surgery only takes 20 minutes. It isn't painful but it is uncomfortable (on a par with a bikini wax). They sent me home with painkillers and sleeping pills but I didn't need them. Excellent customer service; they can't do enough for you. Wish I'd done it years ago - don't wait.

Thanks Giggirl. The London Vision Clinic is supposed to be very good isn't it? And expensive. Would you mind if I asked how much it cost?

Really glad to hear you've had such a good experience. That's what I'm hoping for.

I'm also wondering if I'm too old, at 42, and I might start to need reading glasses anyway. Maybe I should do it anyway. I hate wearing glasses, always have, and i can't get on with contacts.

I paid ?4,800. I may have paid less if I'd shopped around but to be honest price wasn't a factor; I wanted the best clinic and I think they are.

I did a lot of online research at the beginning of the year, but I can't tell you how the price compares with other services I'm afraid.

If you are serious about getting it done and want to have a chat and a cuppa with someone who's been there, then feel free to PM me and I'll happily meet up.

    • I’m basing it on the fact that Jeremy Corbyn had repeatedly and on record said he is against mandatory vaccinations in any situation, and he wouldn’t disclose wether he had the Covid vaccine himself    as I said. Not as bad as his brother but very definitely a bit weird about the whole thing. Just say you had the vaccination Jeremy, say that everyone should and stop being weird in the middle of a global pandemic    it’s the same slippery evasive nonsense about Brexit and him. About Putin poisonings and him.     if you are happy with his evasiveness then you do you.  But there is a reason the country wouldn’t get behind him
    • It was my understanding that Jeremy Corbyn was embarrassed by his brother and had distanced himself from his brother's views. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Why on earth should "the overall view of that family inform Jeremy's response to the pandemic"? What exactly are you basing that assumption on?
    • I guess it's best to do what most Brits do these days, keep your head down and say nothing! although that's probably why this country is in the mess it is today!  😞
