Susan
We, along with 3 year old, are thinking of a 2 week holiday in June in Sweden or similar taking in some city and countryside. I have in my minds eye a little cabin by a lake with some time either side in Gothenburg or another city. I found this english site, http://www.sweden-holidays.com/, with listed properties but there are so many areas to choose from I wondered if any wise forumite would have any advice or experience of an amazing Scandi family holidayany adivce appreciatedThanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42613-holiday-ideas-sweden/ Share on other sites
angelabbie
Oland is fantastic, quaint, beautiful countryside, clean beaches and very family oriented. Went and stayed with family last year with our 3 year old and he loved it. There is a theme park of which I cannot remember the name but its the only one in the area. Its heaven as its one price for the child and parents go free. It has mini trucks to drive around roads with crossings and traffic lights, mini go karts and bikes etc. Its where a lot of swedish families have country homes that live in the city. Goteland is also lovely but further away. We flew into denmark and drove for five hours to reach Oland and the drive was easy and lovely. On the way back we stayed in the tivoli hotel in denmark for two nights which finished the holiday off very nicely. Camping is big in sweden with lots for the children to do, very safe and sites are usually by beautiful beaches. It is expensive in sweden to eat but food is lovely.Hope that helps.Tina Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42613-holiday-ideas-sweden/#findComment-733312 Share on other sites
midivydale
Hi Susan,You will have a wonderful time in Sweden, it is a very child friendly place. On the west coast where I am born and bread there are so many wonderful places, you cant really go wrong. The island of Marstrand outside Gothenburg is gorgeous and there are several other islands in the Gothenburg archepelago which are all amazing. If you have questions about certain places or areas please PM and I will be happy to answer.Another advantage if you are based in the proximity of Gothenburg you would have the option of taking the ferry or coach over Denmark for a day or a few days stay. The ferry (which for kids is an adventure in itself) would take you to Fredrikshavn and from there you could easily get to Skagen or Lokken with amazing beaches. I would really recommend this with small children.Any questions feel free to PM me Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42613-holiday-ideas-sweden/#findComment-733382 Share on other sites
ClareC
My husband was living in Gothenburg when we met, I've subsequently visited many times. The islands are beautiful, would recommend hiring a Stuge. Midsomer is a huge celebration and fun to be there and experience the celebrations.
