sand12
Hi, Looking for any advice on where to get a few duvets cleaned. I used a service on LL last year, but I would like to try someone else. I did a search on the forum, but so far I haven't seen any other threads. Has anyone else used any local services? I have a large king size duvet and two smaller ones I need to have cleaned before storing for the winter. One of the shops on LL quoted me 25 for one. Is this about right? I would love to just know if anyone has a recommendation for a service that they have used a few times for large items. Last few items on the spring cleaning list! Thanks! sanity girl
Just take them to a laundrette, put them in their biggest machine on a hot wash, then an hour or so in the tumble drier - if they are big duvets you may need to divide into 2 loads. I like the laundrette on Sunray/ crossthwaite avenue. A big machine wash costs around ?7 and the tumble drier ?2-3 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42809-duvet-cleaning-recommendations/#findComment-735075 Share on other sites
Mrs TP
Friends of Fabric on Bellenden Road for dry cleaning duvets. It is quite pricey anywhere though so depends on how much you spend on duvets and whether or not you may as well chuck it and buy a new one.I just paid ?12.50 for a single duvet to be cleaned or yes try DIY as sanity girl suggests. Mustard
Use the launderette on Pellatt Road/Lordship lane corner. You can stay and do it yourself, or they will do it for you at a small extra charge. I think the dry cleaners by the post office use them, and then charge an extra tenner or so.Feather and down duvets can be washed, you just need to make they are dried thoroughly. The launderette has tennis balls to put in the dryer to facilitate this. oimissus
I took mine to the lauderette on Bellenden Road, I think it was ?15 for a king size and they did it same day. vicki08
If they are feather duvets they will take more than ?2/?3 to dry in tumble on pellats road it would cost you about ?22.00 for the three Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42809-duvet-cleaning-recommendations/#findComment-735330 Share on other sites
sanity girl
There's no way I would dry clean a duvet - all those chemicals! A hot wash (60 degrees) will kill off dust mites etc Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42809-duvet-cleaning-recommendations/#findComment-735361 Share on other sites
tiddles
the dry cleaners on the forest hill road (near the post office and si mangia) did my kingsize duvet for ?9. they did have a mid week offer on so might be worth checking out if that is still the case? I'm pretty sure it was washed and dried rather than dry cleaned Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42809-duvet-cleaning-recommendations/#findComment-735426 Share on other sites
fl0wer
Launderette on Forest Hill Road, they do a great job, but you might like to ask for a less "fragrance"-laden fabric conditioner. They do supply a non-aromatic one if you ask.My feather dble size service-washed and tumbledried was less than ?10. A label on quilt will state if washable. Have hand washed feather items at home, but they don't usually fit in the drum of an ordinary washing machine to spin out excess moisture. Then drying needs a sunny hot day, labour intensive as pillows or duvet need to be shaken and turned often. bkkmei
I used Dulwich Ironing service. I don't have a car nor a tumble dryer, so it was nice to have the pick up and delivery. At the time it was GBP10 for a double duvet (wash & tumble dry). http://www.dulwichironing.co.uk/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/42809-duvet-cleaning-recommendations/#findComment-735725 Share on other sites
sand12
Thanks everyone for the great tips. Will try dulwich ironing. We don't have a car so, this will save me the time and energy of lugging two bulky duvets on buses to the launderette. GinaG3
sand12, please let me know how you find it please? I've got a huge marshmallowy kingsize all seasons duvet but feel really worried about it getting ruined as it cost a absolute fortune. I'm yet to have it washed but it needs it at some point.
