Not a Family Room topic strictly, but we have 3 children (including a 3 month old that won't take a dummy and isn't used to sleeping in the car) so you will understand my acute need to suss out the traffic situation!

We are going to Devon this weekend and trying to decide whether to leave Friday straight from school or early Saturday AM.

Does anyone have any sense of how long it will take to get to the M25 if we leave on Friday around 3:30/4:00 pm? And would you imagine it will be worse this weekend with the start of the holidays, or just standard Friday hellishness?

It usually takes about 1.5 hours from ED to the beginning of the M4 on a Friday after school - not sure if this weekend will be much worse as people off for Easter might be more likely to be off second week to take advantage of the bank holidays? Depending on where in Devon you're going - if you're going South I'd probably try and suck it up and go Friday evening - we did to Exeter a couple of times last year and going v early on a Saturday morning (leaving by 6.30am) we still got stuck in tonnes of traffic on the M5 southbound from Bristol for about 40 miles - not much fun, and that wasn't with any kids in the car!

Hope the roads are good for you...

Friday evening, otherwise your weekend gets eaten into. We usually bath the kids, into pjs and leave around 6.00. It's about 1.5 hours to the M4 though we go through town. You might be able to transfer kids to bed without them waking up, except for the little one! Good luck!

Alieh, bear in mind you don't need to go all the way to Bristol to come here like Becca suggests. She drove to Exeter, but we are not that far. Take the A303 after the M3 and keep going towards Exeter till the turning for Crewkerne (not Axminster! Not matter what sat nav says). At Crewkerne follow for Lyme Regis... Then call me.

Unless anyone has a better route in which case I would also like to know!

However I think all women moderate their behaviour when on their own, walking at night especially as they fear danger. Two interesting articles https://www.statista.com/statistics/288298/female-victims-of-homicide-england-and-wales-by-relationship-to-offender/?srsltid=AfmBOoqZ9-CIEJWe9kesKy2G_KWxjXPh-tXMRsLvKim0M6mS00dksiKH https://www.theguardian.com/education/2025/sep/23/majority-of-girls-and-young-women-in-uk-alter-behaviour-to-feel-safe-study-finds?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other   Other crimes https://crimerate.co.uk/london personally I always go for the most crowded train carriage late evening and I carry my keys in my hand when walking from the train station…. It’s that fear of violence that is scary …
    • What ever they decide I would have thought that the skate park would not be staying but really hope I am wrong as in my minds eye, I see the skate park as potential parking spaces after all if it is going to be community, flats, retail units, cafe, etc folks are going to want to have the parking availability - Amir like the parade of shops opposite. if the skate park goes then I think it is Dulwich Estate obligation to find another suitable area… a lot of community spirit and hard work went into developing the skate park and the youngsters should be very proud of what they have done  and achieved.
    • Hi all My car was stolen between 1.30pm-1.50pm today in SE22 East Dulwich in South East London. I have of course reported this to the police but not much is being done, so I thought I'd give this a shot. The registration is GM66YOV, though its possible the licence plate may have been changed by now. If you see it anywhere please contact me or the police. Thankyou!
    • Years ago, got my ears pierced, alcohol on site, gun ..done.. Simple.. Gosh, surely your daughter of mothers can recommend  - do you really need to post on forum? Or maybe you home school whatever.. still recovering from shock, posted along the lines of, advice needed about adopting/ buying a dog…. Guess I am now at a age, where I should just keep quiet and pass no comment and read  postings like a “soap” - cheaper than tv licence…
