Had a fun time at the Fun Day at the adventure playground today. They ( the council? Not sure quite who it was but she was very friendly)were canvassing for ideas for a revamp of the old swings/slide/climbing frame playground near the football pitches, but also the disaster of the new "playground" by the one o'clock club. There were questionnaires to be filled in and pictures of possible new stuff. All exciting and am pleased the old part is going to get a revamp and that the other bit might get the things it needs/ improvements to make it a more fun place to play. Would be interested to know if anyone was better than me and managed to ask any sensible questions like who or when?? ( and can share)

Seems like the present adventure playground looses out on a lot of space- basketball area, grass and garden and, although there wasn't anyone to explain the dotted line when I was at the adventure playground today - it looked as though they loose their room as well - or at least it moves outside of the new adventure area. Hope I'm wrong. Wonder if anyone on the planning team actually went to the adventure playground on a busy day(?) - its pretty busy and well used as it is! Adventure playground great as it is. Would wonder if older kids/teens would want to come to the area if they're sharing it with young 'uns. Anyone know more about the plans? Sounds as if its a fait accompli in terms of actually happening - despite the consultation now for ideas - and I'm not personally convinced its been thought through very well ...

Thanks Fuschia - an email address at least, but not much more info/drawings on the plans there sadly. H

There's a thread in the main forum too. The one i'click club building is to be demolished, few more details in main forum from one of the local councillors. No reply to the suggestion that the council try to get their (our) money back on the useless playground over there. I hope they choose a different contractor and designer.....

The designers would benefit from a research trip to see how well all playgrounds are surfaced and maintained in Berlin. Their standard is much more child-friendly, using softer finishes under the installations than tarmac, and more resilient surfacing than turf.

They include wood chippings and sand.

We were remembering German excellence of design and willingness to look after things collectively, on sight of the sorry muddy mess and cold metallic Health & Safety dictated appliances of average London playgrounds.

Wood is used for frames & platforms and runways in friendly shapes to climb. Metal just gets used for slides and rails here and there. All well maintained and clean and strongly built.

Trees & flowering shrubs are set out round interesting curving pathways. Some children learn to use their trikes and others chase round playing hide & seek with their friends etc. Best of all each street corner has a slightly different version. For example you find lots of 'animals' the toddlers can climb through. Many have charming circular house shaped structures. Winter or summer these are welcoming spaces.

Sadly the same question - i.e. Getting the contractors in to sort out the pigs ear they made of the gravity-defying playground - was suggested some years ago. Don't know if anyone got anywhere....

Hi all,

I have posted more on the other thread, I will look into yours suggestion katgod/hpsaucy. I will ask if more information for residents can go on the Southwark website, particularly as I know not everyone who wants to will be able to make it to one of the consultation sessions. The next one is Saturday 19 April

11am to 1pm at the park football pitches

2pm to 4pm at the children?s play room

As far as I know there are no changes planned for the adventure playground itself, nor the picnic area or the current inside space.

HI there Renata - are you sure? I've heard from various people that the present basketball area/garden and some of the grass area in the adventure playground will be used for re-sited one o'clock club. Maybe this is all hearsay but we really need more information so if you can get that extra information available for all that would probably help everyone and lessen anxieties hopefully ..

Googled and have posted some more information from Southwark Council/ THe Building Exploratory whilst awaiting 'official' response/plans etc. See post here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1302472

Can't believe that its Spring and if planning application is due to be submitted in Autumn that there's no visual plan available. Someone???

    • Of course they do, watching cookery shows and buying cook books is a national pastime. However you raise a good point that some people claim they are time poor and end up eating out / takeaways as sometimes a quick macciedee is cheaper and easier than making a quick nutrious family meal.  However to put it in balance, not many people have the knowledge, confidence and time to cook Persian so good luck to team persepolis on this venture.
    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
