Sol
My child is travelling with a relative within Europe; he has a British passport. Does he need a letter from the parents to grant permission or is the passport enough? trinity
I don't know what the legalities of it are but when my daughter travelled with a friend and her parents last year we sent her with letter giving permission which I believe was asked for at border control. Saffron
Definitely send a letter, and have it notarised. x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/44108-does-a-child-need-permission-to-travel-without-his-parents/#findComment-745582 Share on other sites
number 2
I have a different surname from my son and traveled back from France with him alone. We were stopped at passport control where I was questioned about who I was in relation to him. The situation was not improved by him claiming that I wasn't his mother, but an ewok by the name "Chief Chirper" (he was in the midst of his Star Wars obsession at the time). Took some fancy footwork and a very lovely additional passport control official who noticed the first guy's total sense of humour fail to get us back in the country. So yes, I would say take a letter!
