hypnobirthing - how late can you start to learn the techniques/approach?

I just read the book and hubby read the visualisations during labour, obv it would be better to do a course to get all the ins and outs etc but it worked for me, twice, two smooth labours, no pain relief, both water births, one home one in a midwife led birth centre (in fact they didn't believe I was actually in labour when we turned up as I was "too calm" they wanted to send me home until I insisted they check... I was 8cm. For me it went well doing what we did.

I listened to the Natal Hypnotherapy Programme (for Hospital or Birth Centre): A Self Hypnosis CD Programme for a Better Pregnancy and Birth Experience (Maggie Howell). It really helped me prepare for labour and got me through the contractions - I'd definitely recommend! I started listening from 37 weeks so you've still got time to get in the zone.

It is a great idea to get the Marie Mongan HypnoBirthing book. Fantastic that you've got the offer of one on loan.

If you would like to have a chat with me about 1:1 sessions at this stage of your pregnancy I would be delighted to speak to you. I often see mums at 37 weeks. You'll find me easily on line. It's never too late sb. I'f you haven't already got the Mongan book I'd suggest picking up a copy of The Hypnobirthing Book by Katharine Graves instead - having used both I'd say it's better geared towards birth in the UK. If I can be of any help please do drop me a line. My advice would be to expose yourself to as many positive birth stories/videos as possible. There are lots of hypnobirths on YouTube and you can read lots of birth stories written by mums on my website http://londonhypnobirthing.co.uk/birthstories.html


If you follow me on Twitter @lovelybirths or on Facebook at London Hypnobirthing then you can get a daily positive affirmation for pregnancy and birth. You can save these on your phone/stick them in your diary etc. so that your subconscious mind is being filled with positive visions of birth.

      Assistance Dogs - Autism: any experiences?

      https://www.assistancedogs.org.uk/information-hub/assistance-dogs-emotional-support-dogs-and-therapy-dogs/   hello   i’d be interested to understand if anyone.has experience of Assistance Dogs especially for autistic children of different ages for emotional support and therapy   There was a prior thread on this topic on EDF 10 hrs ago but it had limited experiences and there was a (claimed) change in UK legislation in 2019. Whilst the industry appears unregulated/unlicensed, there are several providers (approx 15, perhaps more) who claim to have fully trained dogs or say that they can help families to train a puppy/young dog over the 18-24 months.  The latter obviously comes with a need for strong commitment to the challenge. Costs for a fully trained assistance dog are quoted at £13-15k albeit they claim £23k total cost to train the dog. On the one hand, this could potentially be a useful solution for some families if such a dog was truly trained as their websites claim and such a dog was accepted in public places and schools etc… On the other hand, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an assistance dog of this type or in this context (only for a blind or partially sighted person) and hence a real risk of fraud or exploitation! The SEN challenge for families coupled with limited resources in schools or from local authorities or the NHS as well as the extremely challenging experience of many families with schools offering little or no support or making the situation worse leaves a big risk of lots of different types of fraud and or exploitation in this area.

      Hi there  We live on Woodwarde Road backing on to Alleyns Top Field.  Our cat Gigi has gone missing — it’s been about 24 hours now. She is a cream Bengal.
