My neighbour had subsidence many years ago and the roots of the tree outside his house damaged not only the foundations of the house but the sewage system as well. This was about 20 years ago and cost ?5000 to put right and took over 6 months to complete with the insurance wrangling . The insurance company also made a claim against Southwark for failing to maintain the trees in the street i.e. regular pollarding/cutting back. Southwark at that time had to pay out so much money they began their tree maintenance programme. Imagine the cost today to pay out for your house repair

Yeah - ill though out ?

There seemed to be pollarding going on yesterday - surely you do not pollard in the growing season?

Errrrr

"When To Pollard a Tree

Pollarding is best carried out during the dormant winter months, when the leaves of deciduous trees have fallen, it?s much easier to see the shape you are creating and there?s less stress to the tree as there is minimal loss of sap. "

Two mature plane trees in full leaf were decimated/pollarded in Highshore Rd on Tuesday .

Why oh why do they have to keep doing this in June ?

Has to be bad news for insects ,birds ,not to mention the tree . Oh ,and then there's impact on those of us who love to see a little greenery and shade in an urban landscape .

    • Ah sorry, it was comedy.
    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
