...so I have just been for a stroll in the above, I'm off at the mo, so have more time on my hands. Very relaxing my stroll in the winter sun, until I came across a gorgeous little chap, a Westie, who seemed to be lost. Short of put him in my pocket and take him home, I together with an elderly lady and her son and her poodle....sought to get little Westie back to his owner. Well his owner was one of the many 'professional' dog walkers that work in the area. When Westie was reunited with her and the many other doggie chums that were with her, she hadn't even noticed he'd gone missing. She was too busy on her mobile phone to even acknowledge that the dog had been returned.

Two adult dog walkers, with 16 DOGS BETWEEN THEM!!! Excuse me but that is way too many to keep an eye on.

They were all off their leads and charging about. Neither dog walker knew where to look to keep tabs on them.

When another dog and owner nothing to do with the walking group, came bounding round the corner (the dog not the owner), utter chaos followed as all 16 hounds went charging up the other end of the field having a right royal time of playing with this new dog. I stood and watched as gradually the dogs were eventually called back. How can they walk 16 dogs at a time and not loose any???

When they were put back on their leads, some of the smaller ones started barking, and the female dog walker got out her water bottle and threw a load of water over their heads? What the hell is that?

I've thought about using dog walkers in the past, but worried about how many others they's be lumped together with. Now I've seen 16 of them running riot and then being doused with cold water when they barked, I'm not so sure.

well judging from what i saw this arvo, no one. the woman was on her phone and then busy throwing water over the dogs heads when they barked, and the man...well he was in the bushes talking to one of the dogs about being 'leader of the pack'. It was very weird.

It's almost enough, to ignite me to make a remark about The Shangri Las. But of course I'll demure.

Because that might lead to a mention of George 'Shadow' Morton, who once produced a Mott The Hoople single.

And you don't want to get me started on that, I'll be here al nigh.........

Its re-assurring to hear that our unknown Westie Cousin is O.K. now...we would NOT have been amused if something had happened to him/her.(6)

Sammy/Max/Phoebe/Alice..a.k.a Team Westie-Bexley.:-$

Madworld,

I have an idea it's illegal for one person to walk more than four dogs at at a time. It is almost impossible to control a pack of 15 dogs offlead. Even if there were two people, a man and a woman, it's still way too many dogs.

If this is a professional organisation, and it sounds certain that it is, it's out of order. I too know of only one organisation that regularly uses the Rye.

The dog walkers also take out big groups at Dulwich/Sydenham Woods, they park their vans where they think no one can see them by the allotments next to the golf course because there is a sign saying "no commercial dog walkers", I've counted 8 each and they don't pick up the mess or are able to control the dogs. They are usually there around 11.30 if you want to avoid them.

oh God what have I started here.I came across a darling Westie who was lost, and at his return to the 'pack' had to stay and watch what was happening. I've never seen anything like it. so, 16 dogs, as I thought is way over the mark.

As for what dog walking company it is...well all the dogs and their 'walkers/smokers/texters/water-throwers' had bright orange leads. Quite unusual.

Anymore light shed?

(I know some would say what's the big deal, but as a true unfaltering animal lover, I belive i should be brought to light)

    • Copleston centre hire for adult parties
    • Most churches rent out halls for children's' parties but rarely adult parties, Christ Church only does afternoon parties,   The East Dulwich Community centre hires out halls to 9 pm only and all music needs to be on a sound restrictor as is in a residential area. St Johns with St Clements have a small hall but not sure if they allow adult parties. Nunhead Green has a newish community centre with a couple of different size halls. Most places seem to charge around £40 ph  with a deposit of £100/200 (returned if no damage or excess cleaning needed.
    • Hello, Recently there have been various comments made on the forum which have resulted in heated discussions being had. I for one, hold up my hand and wanted to personally thank whoever is keeping the forum going.. remember when it was likely to close. We are all adults and should known when it is right to continue or just ignore or if really feel it necessary comment via pm. I have had a long relationship with the forum and have bought, sold, offered advice and in deed made friends on the forum over the years. It is a public forum after all and everyone is entitled to express their opinion and is also free. I am not as tech minded as most but with the season of good will approaching and-knowing in this economic climate how many people are  struggling, I  thought it would be a lovely idea, to perhaps set up a just giving page to raise funds for a local charity who might appreciate a contribution towards their Christmas festivities… On a practical side, might just be to complicated to administer as I am sure all have charities that we support so my other thought was not me, as I am useless but to set up a just giving page and whatever monies are raised, perhaps contribute to the festivities that use to be run by local shops or whatever.. Maybe even use a local church hall and just make it special for perhaps folk that find it difficult to access events or no access for say wheel chair users.. guess really, one is looking for guidance from the church and of course volunteers. Shoot me down if you must or feel the need but this is my view and no, sadly I won’t be around in the months before Christmas but can help remotely.
