Driving instructor for refresher lessons

Hi gang,

I haven't been driving for a few years and I have never driven a car in the UK. Most of my driving was in scandinavia, so I have never driven on the left side of the road. Now I am thinking of getting a car, but I think I need to take a couple of driving lessons, both to get back into the groove but perhaps more importantly to get used to driving in London.

If anyone has got a local driving instructor that they could recommend that would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I did this about 15yrs ago after a long gap between passing my test and then having my own car to drive. I can't remember the name of the school - sorry - but I found it to be a pretty standard service that most driving schools offer. Just take a note down of the cars you see in your local area and give them a ring if no-one can offer a specific recommendation.

You can apply for a free 2 hour lesson with the AA driving school - oops just seen it's so popular that it's temporarily suspended, but it's worth keeping an eye out for it. I did it (couldn't get an automatic hire car abroad so needed a manual refresher lesson) and it was excellent....

Hi, I have just completed a driving refresher course after a loss of confidence over the last 2 years following a collision with a 40 ton left hand drive lorry on the A14. Surviving the accident was a miracle but the thought of it happening again left me very anxious. I went out with a local instructor who does 2 1/2 hour sessions. We went on various busy South London streets in order encounter all sorts of traffic and out onto the A21 and M25 to get used to the lorries and speed. I needed 3 sessions to regain my confidence, but if you haven't been traumatised by an accident, I would think one session at ?75. would be worth it. I can recommend Nick Pauli, of Nicholas Driving Academy.SE22. M 07956 221706. I chose to use my own car, so he had to trust me as well as me trust him, as he didn't have the dual control.

Hope this helps and good luck.

    • Hi all My car was stolen between 1.30pm-1.50pm today in SE22 East Dulwich in South East London. I have of course reported this to the police but not much is being done, so I thought I'd give this a shot. The registration is GM66YOV, though its possible the licence plate may have been changed by now. If you see it anywhere please contact me or the police. Thankyou!
    • Years ago, got my ears pierced, alcohol on site, gun ..done.. Simple.. Gosh, surely your daughter of mothers can recommend  - do you really need to post on forum? Or maybe you home school whatever.. still recovering from shock, posted along the lines of, advice needed about adopting/ buying a dog…. Guess I am now at a age, where I should just keep quiet and pass no comment and read  postings like a “soap” - cheaper than tv licence…

    • I would'nt go locally I'd go to Maria Tash in Liberty..it'll be more expensive but they will do a good job and its their buisness not a 'sideline' to other beauty offerings. https://www.mariatash.com/store-locations/maria-tash-london-liberty?srsltid=AfmBOoqMz7Ev-4YqzrlkePX0n3i5JbiggGYSR9kU5z1p_ajP_jjQKqlt I have no experience of piercing at Polished but I went in to enquire about a manicure and I found the staff attitude pretty rude, looking me up and down when I walked in and just giving off a bad attitude like they just could'nt be bothered maybe because I'm not a glam 30 something? I dont know.
