  1. Such great suggestions -- much nicer with than barbed wire! And if you get blackberries, you can make jam too :)
  2. St david in forest hill hands down. http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/st-david-coffee-house Up there with prufrock, flat white and the old 'taste of bitter love' in hackney.
  3. There is a fantastic karate session happening on thursdays at fairlawn school.
  4. do you mean a dehumidifier or humidifier? Most people in this country are after dehumidifiers since a lot of old period properties are damp. If it's a dehumidifier you are after, I can recommend this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-DES12-Compact-Dehumidifier-Litre/dp/B0029NZW5E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1463602781&sr=8-4&keywords=delonghi+dehumidifier It's quiet, portable, reasonably sized, extracts water very well and has got an analogue dial, meaning that you can set the humidity level exactly where you want it. Some models with a digital humidistat are really crap because they don't give you enough precision.
  5. Can you bring a builder you trust to the property and ask them to help you with an estimate?
  6. maybe hard to read the plates because the car was going so fast :P
  7. Still seems like a mismatch: "Blue 2004 Ford Focus Edge" doesn't sound like the same as a "Silver SUV".
  8. Hmm you sure you got the right reg no? http://rate-driver.co.uk/CK04UGT http://www.ukvehicle.com/CK04UGT Seems to be a Ford Focus in Cardiff....
  9. In Norway, the speed cameras read the license plate and compute the average speed *between* cameras as well as checking the speed at each location. Great way to get people to slow down on country roads, motorways etc. Clever clever norwegians...
  10. You should check Gails (http://gailsbread.co.uk/) in dulwich village - I used to live on top of a place called Baker and Space in Queens Park, which used to be run by the same Gail that is now the owner of Gails. They had the best Challah I have ever eaten and that bakery was not only was a bad-ass bread making place but also had a strong jewish connection. I know they also have it in the bread stall up in the horniman farmer's market.
  11. also, a tip is to take him to the greenwich planetarium, that really inspired my son when he was younger.
  12. This is a good solution: http://london.ziferblat.net/about/ A cafe and collaboration space where everything is free. Except the time you spend there. 5p per minute.
  13. Try searching the forum for Mehmet!
  14. Just a reminder that downloading torrents are illegal. Most of the time, if you are doing a "free" download of a recent tv series, you are doing it illegally and hence committing a crime. Your IP address (unless you are on a well encrypted VPN service) will be easily associated with the various torrents and things you download. This may not be what you want, but just a friendly reminder that this is how business models around digital video distribution works these days.
  15. Try the apple store: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/tv-season/pretty-little-liars-season-6/id990435322
  16. A dehumidifier can completely transform a room. Get one unit for each room affected, run them, see how much water they collect. Get cheap hygrometers to measure room humidity. You should see (and maybe feel) the difference in a matter of days. If it's condensation, this will most likely fix your problem straight away. I have tried quite a few different dehumidifiers and can recommend this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/DeLonghi-DES12-Compact-Dehumidifier-Litre/dp/B0029NZW5E If it doesn't work on the other hand, it can be mould, e.g. damp coming from an external source (gutters, roof etc). One thing that I have used in the past (with asthmatic children) is an air purifier - it's pretty amazing actually, it cleans the air things like mould spores and other bad particles. We have one of these bad boys at home: http://www.breathingspace.co.uk/air-purifiers-c1/blueair-blueair-203-slim-air-purifier-with-hepasilent-technology-p151
  17. There was a live jazz band last night playing Django Reinhardt-style guitar jazz. It was wonderful.
  18. I found the veg stall at the hornimans farmer's market quite good. Good stuff, and always feels quite a bit cheaper than the supermarket.
  19. My BT infinity FTTC is rock solid. 70 down, 20 up, no bandwidth cap. I use terabytes of data some months as part of my job and i have never had any issues with any speed degradation or capping due to this. It just works. I spend several hours every day in video conferences and it very rarely fails. Things to check: - Measure the true speed: Turn off wifi at the hub and plug in a machine directly into the hub and run a speed test. Quite often it's the wifi that is causing issues. If this is the case, see if you have a lot of channel overlap - this can slow things down. There are good apps for this. This step will allow to you understand if the problem is the actual connection or your wifi setup. If it is indeed the connection, talk to BT. If not, there are lots of things you can do to improve a bad wifi. - I found that if you are using apple products, the PPPoE connection used by infinity sometimes acts weirdly. I swapped out the BT hub for an apple time machine that his greatly improved things. Note that I think this is an apple issue, not a BT issue. A classic case of apple products working great with other apple products. Cheers and good luck!
  20. A friend of mine just ordered from B&Q - they work with the following company for shutters: http://www.californiashutters.co.uk/ Surprisingly smart looking result, and most likely at the other end of the spectrum price wise! Might be worth looking at simply as a comparison.
  21. @Grok > Who doesnt have to raise voice to kids sometimes? Hitting or pushing along? Smacking, slapping, punching? In the part of the world where I am from, smacking, slapping or punching a child is illegal and the mere thought of this being somehow ok makes me feel thoroughly shocked and appalled. No, you mustn't ever smack, slap or punch a child. Ever.
  22. The United Nations Convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC): http://www.unicef.org.uk/Documents/Publications/Child_friendly_CRC_summary_final.pdf That's the starting point, right there.

    Lead Pipes

You may find that the lead pipe is covered with layer of limescale internally, protecting you from the lead. Doing a test is a good idea.
  24. Also wanted to highly recommend Mehmet. He did an amazing job in our front garden last Monday. We needed someone to shave off the top layer of an old nasty lawn, put down a membrane and put bark chips on top. In addition, we needed to add a front Fence. We had some really lovely leftover hardwood from a decking project, so I had something very specific in mind. I had three people come round to take a look and quote. Mehmet was great, I explained what I wanted, he was really clear in his communication and recommended a great site for surface materials. This was a little bit of a complicated job since I wanted a very specific look and feel - we organized the work so that I ordered bark chips etc and he sorted out fence poles, screws, concrete etc. He showed up promptly on the monday morning at 8AM with all the materials and got to work. I had a detailed plan outlining what I wanted the fence to look like. At 4.30PM he had finished both the lawn and the fence and it looks fantastic. Super efficient! We are extremely pleased with the result. Mehmet helped improve the original plan and did some additional carpentry to make it look even nicer. Massive thumbs up from me.
