I think this is all about being sensitive to the needs of people using the pavement.

I can't imagine anybody wants to stop people being able to eat outside and enjoy the Summer, but there is a balance to be struck.

Franklins has always had (to the best of my recollection) one table round the corner and two or three immediately outside the bar in Lordship Lane, but now the tables are taking up a large part of the pavement and, at least when we passed by, making it very hard just for people who can walk on their own two feet, let alone for people in wheelchairs or pushing buggies.

They also have tables outside the farm shop which they use as additional tables for people eating, but (if memory serves) that area of pavement is much bigger and there is plenty of room both for the tables and for people walking down Lordship Lane.

Yeah, you could march in their demanding to see their paperwork.

Or perhaps you could politely suggest to them that people with prams or mobility problems find it difficult to pass, and see how they respond. I dunno, just throwing it out there...

Quite a number of people on this thread seem to think it's more important that as many people as possible should be able to eat outside and have chairs and tables on the pavement than that Franklin's should leave sufficient space for disabled people (and others) to easily pass along a public pavement.

Surely a compromise can be reached? The pavement really is too narrow at that point for the number of chairs and tables they had out on Wednesday night - I don't know how many they have out normally, maybe not so many?
