Given the thriving folk scene locally, just thought people might like to know about this kickstarter campaign to fund a documentary about folk icon Shirley Collins. The team behind the planned film seem to have some solid work under their belts and it looks like a really interesting project. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shirleycollins/the-ballad-of-shirley-collins

What's more, there's a local angle (which is how I came to hear about it), in that one of the pledge rewards on offer is an album which features two East Dulwich-based musicians: Joe Murphy of Sergeant Buzfuz and Polly MacLean of Slate Islands. (They're in good company: the album also includes tracks by Alasdair Roberts, Graham Coxon, Will Oldham and Sharron Kraus, amongst others.) Anyway, the crowdfunding thing is only running until 22 July, so get pledging! Shirley Collins is amazing and her story deserves telling...

Newsletter goes out to over a thousand people, and goes on Twitter too, and it was retweeted by Shirley Collins! (and by Martin Simpson, though I think that was more because he's headlining our next concert ... :) )

Hope they make their target ....

ETA: Less than ?2000 to make now, with six days to go.

    • It should be easy enough to point out to anyone even thinking of voting reform that should they take power they will have no impact. And will make things worse.  And if people think politicians break promises now and reform are a breath of fresh air then they ain’t seen nothing yet  but they won’t really care about immigration if reform do win  uk used to be about law and order and now we have dim talking heads everywhere unchallenged going “leave the ECHR, stuff the judges, just do it!!”   like life is that simple sweeties
    • I have been reliably informed that it's not the same group.
    • my bet is it's the same group and no amount of talking to is going to make a difference.
    • Definitely not intended  to come across as "gleeful". Quite the opposite, because developments such as this will only encourage extreme right-wingers such as Reform. And heaven help us if they ever formed a government. It's incumbent on Labour to come up with an effective  policy to "smash the gangs" otherwise we are facing Farage and his gang further down the road.
