Can anyone offer any advice? My soon to be 6 year old is ready for the next scooter up from mini micro. He wants a two wheeled rather than the maxi micro. I have friends who say the Micro Sprite is not that great quality and so I am looking at alternatives, including Razor. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any scooters that stand out for build quality?

Many thx

Hi - my 5 year old has a 'grit' stunt scooter - I think this one - http://www.skates.co.uk/scooters/gritfluxx2scooter-team-yellow.html - it seems pretty sturdy. He also liked the stunt microscooter - http://www.micro-scooters.co.uk/scooters-model-mx-stunt/micro-mx-trixx-scooter-black.html but he the yellow of the grit one won him over!

There is a tiny little shop in west wickham which is great for information and has a good selection of scooters. The key thing they said to us was that basically if a scooter folds, it has an inherent weakness at the point it folds, so avoid if you're going to be doing more than cruising the streets. We take our little boy to the skate park at the cyclopark on a sunday morning for their under 8's session and he loves it.

Thx for your post. Had been reading that its probably better to get one that doesn't fold but hubby is balking at the thought of packing it in the car for travel. I am looking at the Razor Ultra lo pro which seems to offer most things. Will try and check out the shop in WW. Cheers.

    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. The Southwark News has a summary of the awful day. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/donnell-rhule-dulwich-knife-murderer-cousins-sentenced-to-life-for-killing-18-year-old/    2) Last week, a female prison officer from Forest Hill was sentenced to eight months in prison for pursuing a relationship with one of the two murderers while at HMP Brixton. https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/15/probation-officer-admits-relationship-prisoner-hmp-belmarsh-25501445/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38203627/probation-officer-jailed-illicit-relationship-murderer-secure-prison/
    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
