foreign visitors - medical help

My mum is visiting from South-Africa, and I need to get her to a doctor urgently. She has medical insurance - but I'm not sure if she can use our normal GP service?

Your Mum should be able to register as a temporary patient at your GP surgery - seeing the GP is free but prescription charges apply. Emergency treatment in A&E is free too. Non- urgent specialist care will incur a charge - insurance company should cover this but check with them.

I am pretty sure th lister walk in centre at peckham will see her, call them first and check though as I could be wrong.

My sister visiting from Australia went to the (private) Guthrie clinic at Kings College Hospital to have a check on her Warfarin level. They were helpful and not expensive.

You will find a lot of GP surgeries Policy is not to take on overseas visitors as they will not provide private treatment. Your best bet is A&E or to get a better service The Guthrie wing of King's College Hospital

NHS hospital will generally provide free treatment for acute or emergency situations. But charge a daily rate for aftercare or rehabilitation. However this may vary from region to region
