I'm wondering whether to go for the flush fitting (with a French drain) or just opt for standard - which with a cill would be no more than 5cm above the brickwork. The net difference in price is just under a grand. Standard is weather rated, flush is not (but then there is the trip hazard!)

If you have flush doors, did you have any problems with the rain last year?? I'm worried because we want to have wood floors and I don't want them to get ruined. There's no shelter over the door.

On a separate note - are integrated blinds any good? We've got an exposed west facing garden and I imagine we'll need to be able to shade... Especially in weather like this!

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!

We have flush doors and we didn't have rain coming in - we have wood floors . We also have integrated blinds and I wouldn't be without them, especially as we are south facing so would be impossible in this heat! It's nice to shut them and know noone looking in on you - we have a lane behind our garden so this was pretty crucial to me.

Thanks. That's good to know! Where did you get your doors from and did they do the fitting? The door is going to be completely exposed though as there's not really any roof above and no trees close by.

I think we'll definitely need something to shut out the light - just that the integrated blinds look a bit odd to me!

    • Do you believe this is actually going to happen?!   Demolition was supposed to start in the summer but the Labour government have pulled the plug. Even Labour councillors have had to begin petitioning the government to keep the project alive. https://www.southwarklabour.com/2025/10/03/labour-councillors-launch-petition-for-peckham-rye-station-upgrade/ It's dead in the water surely?
    • Yep CRP Dave. It reminded me of Jess Phillips a couple of weeks ago, when the grooming gangs enquiry started going tits up.  It's not very statesman-like to lose your shit like that in the chamber. It's one unedifying display after another.
    • no need to be snipey mulumbo - just trying to understand what you want to achieve - if you have what you need great - no need to be ungrateful or unkind
    • He should be. His behaviour has been appalling. Refusing to comply with a Speaker's request to come back to the HoC and explain himself shows utter contempt to parliament and the electorate. If he had any any integrity he would resign. Nothing to do with the prisoner, but all to do with his arrogance and contempt. This Labour party don't have any integrity at all though. We are two weeks away from the Chancellor of the Exchequer breaking a fundamental manifesto commitment. Breaking promises like demeans the entire contract between voters and MPs. If she doesn't resign for breaking those promises (she won't) then all manifesto promises going forward have to also be treated as lies, not worth the paper they are written on.  She should have already resigned herself for the breaking the law over her failure to register as a landlord. They are an absolute disgrace. And whilst all this farce plays out in Downing St where the fuck is the Prime Minister? Nowhere to be seen, unanswerable to the public about this disgraceful shambles.
