I'm contemplating a last minute trip over to France with my family for a spot of camping next week. Given we'll only have a 2-3 days, I don't want to spend long in the car - so wondered if anyone had any recommendations for nice, family friendly sites within 1-2 hours of Calais?

Would love to find somewhere with nice pool on site (for 3 and 1 year olds), good site facilities (fresh croissants for breakfast please) and ideally near the coast / nice villages for a couple of excursions.

Any recommendations / places to avoid?

Hi, we stayed here last year:

It's 10k from Calais. We wanted to be close as it was our first camping trip in france with two young children. It was great. So easy to find and get to from the Eurotunnel, which was a plus. Also the coast was close by and we had lots of glorious days out on the beach - see here:

Hope that helps

Yes La bien Assise is good, has good swimming pools for kids and water slide for older ones, we were in the Chalets last year. Near the coast and shops/supermarkets not too far. Was really nice. We also went to Drancourt (part of the same group)another year which is a bit further but has more entertainment (free) - magicians, pony rides, singing, caberet, etc. Had great time there too. I found booking direct was a lot cheaper.

    • Remember, you never know what someone else is going through behind closed doors....
    • Is anyone else having difficulty booking Silver Swim sessions (Tuesday and Thursday between 3pm-4pm?) Almost all the spaces are taken before the online booking system opens at 10pm several days before. Last night there appeared to be one space available for next Tuesday. I tried to book at one second past 10pm but was unsuccessful. This seems to have been a recent phenomenon. I made a telephone call this morning but just received a recorded message saying that the voicemail box was full. Am I right in assuming that in person bookings are now taking precedence over online ones?
    • I completely agree with you, Angelina. But it's worth noting that no one else has a problem with her, or finds her rude /  has mentioned her aggressively banging gates / ringing doorbells etc.
    • But I don't think that was what you meant, was it? But he can hardly be held responsible for what somebody else did! Just discovered I forgot to post the above  last night, and now it's overtaken by long posts.  I don't have sufficient knowledge  to counter some of what has been said above, some of which appears to be opinion rather than facts, so it would be pointless for me to say anything else.
