Labourer to lay garden paving slabs

Very confusing post - entitled "Labourer" to lay paving slabs followed by "professional etc etc". Go to B&Q Old Kent Rd 7.00am onwards and there are loads of east european benefits scroungers touting for work at ?70 a day cash in hand or seek the services of indiginous tax paying tradesmen who you feel safe leaving the keys to your house with. The world is your oyster.

Before laying 'slabs', a suitable foundation must be laid. Asking for detailed quotes is the right way to go. Picking up a labourer at B&Q is just that - picking up a labourer! Someone has to organise sand and cement and cement mixer, and whacker plate and hardcore...etc. So not a helpful post there JDC.

If you still are looking for quotes lionandmouse, feel free to PM me.

Anyone up and out at 7am desperately looking for work sounds pretty motivated / determined to find employment.

The idea that 'indigenous' tradesman don't do cash in hand work is laughable.

Sounds more like you just don't like foreigners to me.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
