LibraCarr
Hi again,Sorry to say it is not , unless you listen to gossip or mindless talk! As i said in my posting I will try to get the codes. Try having a look at the wall at the far end of the Grove on the left hand side and away from the Locale Cafe you you will see what I mean. Add to that the number of white vans that are in the road that have never had graffiti on them. Why do a wall when you can do a van.You may want to dismiss this, but if you do not believe then make a casual enquiry at any police station. I would like to hear of your comments when you have enquired at the local nick.Regards,Libra Carr. ????
Mmmm...the Police are full of Urban myths in my expereience (which is actually knowing some coppers). Plus...you find a nice easy target so you let all the competition know????....sound like a load of old bull to me. Sorry Libra Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4774-thieves-in-east-dulwich/page/2/#findComment-155333 Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
It all sounds redolent of the good ol' days when gentlemen of the road made mysterious marks on doors to indicate whether the householder was an easy touch or not. Or was that Gandalf and Bilbo? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4774-thieves-in-east-dulwich/page/2/#findComment-155336 Share on other sites

huncamunca
Its and old trick that has been passed down over the years by word of mouth in the pub and with a rapidly dimishing half life - originally used by pickpockets in the 16th century, where a victim was bumped by an accomplice to find out the location of his money bag, a chalk mark was left on the victim so the secondary pickpocket could move in and deftly lift the bag od groats or whatever.True,It was reasonably common in victorian times, where door to door hawkers were able to scope the "joint" & mark it up for their burgular chums to come along later in the day.Its not something to lose sleep over these days Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/4774-thieves-in-east-dulwich/page/2/#findComment-155350 Share on other sites
Huguenot
B*llocks it isn't.A trip six months ago to a cashpoint in the West End left me with both 100 quid in my pocket and a chalk mark invitation on my coat for some tw@t to thump me and take it.Being an irritable loud-mouthed fellow the thieves probably regretted drawing attention to me. The f*cker at the cash point who striped me had the nerve to ask me what my problem was before disappearing round the corner when I engaged passers-by in the quest for a solution.
