Hi pug wash, would you mind sharing your costs? We're pricing up different options at the mob and we're astounded at what LL carpets were looking at for laying carpet in even our smallest rooms!

I went to LL carpets to get a quote for hall and stair carpet - I wanted a runner - they quoted ?90 a metre.

Went to EJ carpets in Forest Hill, and got carpet and stair runners for about a third of price.

Engineered wood click lock in oak, underlay, beading, pipe roses for room 16 x 16 feet. ?1189.

However - over estimated by 2 boxes so will be selling these on EDF when I get round to it after putting the room to rights with all the furniture which has to have felt pads put on them

Thanks Pugwash, that's good to know. we will go and have a look at EJ carpets as LL carpets' quote just seemed ridiculous!

Does a quote of around ?700 for engineered wood or karndean on a roughly 6/7 metre square hallway sound reasonable to all you knowledgeable folk out there?

Wondering if anyone can advise on the merits of laying new wooden flooring over existing floorboards vs just replacing the original floorboards.

Moved into a house where the upstairs rooms all have the original floorboards exposed. I think they are beyond restoring as they're uneven and quite badly damaged.

I don't know whether it's best to install new wood floors over them or take them out altogether and start again with new ones. Grateful for any advice.
