Hello everyone,

My name is Nathaniel, and I recently graduated with a degree in Pure Mathematics BSc from Brunel University. Prior to that I attended Haberdashers? Aske?s Hatcham College and Sixth Form, and was also the Deputy Head Boy. After privately tutoring maths for many years, I have decided to start a low cost GCSE Maths Support scheme called LovePi.

LovePi GCSE Maths Support is a unique, affordable way of having the support of a private tutor when you need it.

I am currently seeking a small test group of GCSE maths students. They will have full use of the service for free for 3 weeks, after which continued monthly use of the service will cost less than one hour?s private tuition. The service will also be available on a weekly basis.

So that there is complete transparency about the exchange of questions and answers between myself and my students, I have decided to use Dropbox as the communication platform. It allows students to send their questions to me wherever they are, they can receive and view my explanations as soon as I publish them, and there is a secure record of all activity with all deleted files being restorable. All parents are welcome to be given access to the shared space we will use to work in and I am more than happy to meet any interested parents.

I have more information that I?m very happy to send to out, and any questions are more than welcome. Private message me for either.

Thank you

Hello everyone,

This is just a quick message to say thank you to those who have already shown an interest in the LovePi GCSE Maths Support scheme.

I also wanted to say that I have decided to increase the size of the test group to ten students, based on the number of enquiries I have already had. I am currently speaking to a number of parents and have sent information out to a few more. I will be broadening my search in the coming days to the communities that surround East Dulwich so don't hesitate to message me for more information or to secure a place on the free trial for you or your children.

Thank you

    • But all those examples sell a wide variety of things,  and mostly they are well spread out along Lordship Lane. These two shops both sell one very specific thing, albeit in different flavours, and are just across the road from each other. I don't think you can compare the distribution of shops in Roman times to the distribution of shops in Lordship Lane in the twenty first century. Well, you can, but it doesn't feel very appropriate. Haa anybody asked the first shop how they feel? Are they happy about the "healthy competition" ?
    • ED is included in the 17 August closure set (or just possibly 15 August, depending on which part of the page you trust more) listed at https://metro.co.uk/2025/07/25/full-list-25-poundland-stores-confirmed-close-august-23753048/. Here incidentally are some snippets from their annual reports, at https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/02495645/filing-history. 2022: " during the period we opened 41 stores and closed 43 loss-making/under-performing stores.  At the period-end we were trading from 821 stores in the UK, IoM and ROI. ... "We renogotiated 82 leases in the year, saving on average 45% versus the prior lease agreement..." 2023: "We also continued to improve our market footprint through sourcing better store locations, opening 53 and closing 51 stores during the year." 2024:  "The ex-Wilco stores acquired in the prior year have formed a core part of this strategy to expand our store network.  We favour quality over quantity and during the period we opened 84 stores and closed 71 loss-making/under-performing ones."
    • Ha! After I posted this, I thought of lots more examples. Screwfix and the hardware store? Mrs Robinson and Jumping Bean? Chemists, plant shops, hairdressers...  the list goes on... it's good to have healthy competition  Ooooh! Two cheese shops
    • You've got a point.  Thinking Leyland and Screwfix too but this felt different.
