bodsier
Has anyone who has a child with dairy allergies been successful with the baked milk challenge? Is you child now able to tolerate all cooked dairy without serious reaction or eczema? patt1980
We've tried every 6 months with my now 3.5 year old with small amounts of baked in dairy (following milk ladder introduction thing dietician gave us) and i'd say since 3 she's been able to tolerate it but not in huge amounts e.g. she can share the odd croissant with me or have a little piece of birthday cake or mash made with milk but not every day. We still tend to 'fail' the challenge at more than 1 teaspoon of yoghurt but are happy that we've reached a point where most accidental slip-ups with biscuits or cake when we're at a party or something don't make her too bad anymore. About to start it with my youngest when he turns 1 next month so fingers crossed he'll grow out of it a bit younger. midivydale
Hello, we are getting there with my son who is 2 1/2. Up until v recently he reacted badly almost every time we tested but we seem to have turned a corner. He has normal toast a couple of times a week and today he has had some crumpet at nursery. I have got carried away a few times to my poor son's detriment though. Once he tried his grandads ice cream and upon seeing his happy face I bought him his own. Bad move, an other time I gave in to his begging to try yoghurt and that didnt work.Good luck with it, take it nice and slow. As the poster said above it is lovely to get to a point where an occasional slip up doesnt have to end in disaster.X Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/49447-food-challenges-for-allergies/#findComment-784041 Share on other sites
midivydale
Sorry, just to add that I dont think we are at a point where he tolerates all cooked milk. I wouldnt yet give him creamy sauces like lasanga, carbonara and would be careful with things like pancakes. bodsier
Thanks for the feedbCk. All the issues seem to be with milk rather than butter as I had suspected. It seems that butter seems ok for you midyfdale but milk and yoghurt more problematic. stress_head
Yes that sounds true but the Bread/crumpets/cakes that we have tried does contain cows milk protein too. He juse seem to tolerate it at the moment. Is your little one allergic to all dairy products? bodsier
Yes, but I have always suspected he would be ok with cooked butter, ie however they won at too challenge milk, which if don't feel comfortable with, and my instincts tend to be right....
