Hi,

I would like to recommend Kevin from Y & J Builders, he recently completed a complex refurbishment in my 1930s house, including the following:

- Total refurbishment of living/dining room area, including removal of fireplaces, complete re-plastering and decorating throughout, new tiling in fireplaces, restoration of parquet flooring (including sanding and varnishing) and electrical re-wiring.

- Restoration of front porch area, including removal of uPVC outer door and re-tiling floor area.

- New toilet fitted to old 1930's pipework; new tiling to floor; re-decorating and new skirtings.

- Impromptu roof repairs to fix damp problem caused by leak from valley roof.

- Additional bits such as replacing floorboards, removing stair carpet, repairs to plumbing in water cistern.

He uses excellent skilled tradesmen and is a hard worker, going over and above the original remit to achieve maximum results at a reasonable price. He was present throughout the works and was committed to seeing the job done to the original specifications. No problem that came up was too much for him and he addressed the solutions willingly and without complaint.

I would be happy to respond to private messages for further details, or for people to view the results.

As far as I understand his website & email are being re-designed at the moment but he replies promptly to phone enquiries.

    • Just for information: I see that the Licensing Sub-committee has the Tesco application as item 1 on their 24 July meeting agenda.  https://moderngov.southwark.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=172&MId=8329. The officer's report to the committtee provides a good succinct summary.  I see, from (original) p.31 of the full public pack, that Tesco Legal Dept on 12 June reported that they'd agreed with the police's suggested conditions to be attached to the licence, and the police accordingly withdrew their own representation.  That leaves just one representation, from a member of the public, to be dealt with on the day. I still think it's not necessarily to be presumed that Tesco will definitely be taking over the premises.  I see that Poundland themselves were granted an off-sales licence on 21 Feb 2023, and surrendered it on 3 July 2025.  I'm not sure they actually ever used it themselves.  Did they? https://www.southwark.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-09/Statement of Licensing Policy 2021-2026.pdf is a full statement of the policy and its application, for thems as is interested.

    • Well, quite. Do you know where your lad's going tonight?
    • I'd get rid of duty free shopping.  Nothing to do with tourist tax but something I hate.  All that glitz as you try to get through to Wetherspoons in the departure lounge.  No great savings over on line or even at times supermarkets, and the hypocrisy of selling cheap cancer sticks. Ok back to tourist tax
