Hi, I'm new to this forum and soon to be new to East Dulwich - been a long time admirer of the area. :-) I'm going to be renting an absolutely amazing flat in Barry Road near the traffic lights and with a view of Peckham Rye - I just wondered what the area is like that end? I currently live in Forest Hill, and have lived in Sydenham and I do know the Lordship Lane area of ED, but this is a new end of the area to me. Is there much trouble in the area? And what kind of age group rent flats in Barry Road? (Hope it's not too specific a question!)

Anyway, am looking forward to being your new neighbour and getting to know you all on the forum, and would love to hear your comments about where I'm moving to... Thanks.

Hey Ocean

Welcome to Barry Road, I also live at that end and its a great location. Age groups around here are pretty mixed and most folks seem friendly, I haven't experienced/seen any bother/trouble. The best things about Barry Road...in no particular order

a) Barry's supermarket - love that shop they sell absolutely everything and the staff are wonderful

b) the view of the Rye

c) view of the Church

d) free parking

e) easy access to lots of public transport

f) The Clockhouse Pub

g) The Plough Pub - especially when Keith is playing:))

Enjoy!

    • OK so we are having our annual conversation about getting aircon fitted, as our west-facing loft turns into an ACTUAL FURNACE whenever the temperature goes over 25 degrees. (It's 33 degrees in here now and that's with the blackout blinds closed all day.) We have Velux windows that are hinged in the middle so I think a portable unit is out of the question as it would be a nightmare with the vent. So maybe we just need to bite the bullet and get a proper unit installed. Has anyone had experience of doing this, particularly in a loft? Any things to watch out for/recommendations for installers, and would you be willing to say how much it cost (I'm seeing wildly varying prices quoted online)? I know it's a lot of money for only a few days a year but as the summers are getting hotter it's becoming more of an issue every year. Any advice appreciated!
    • Well we already have a top class gym with a reformer Pilates studio at Fitfor.  I don’t think they’ve found it easy over the years to make money. We could end up with none. There’s also Core just opened in Upland Rd doing massage therapy. All these places won’t be here in 12 months I’m afraid to say.
    • Todays the day, which option will we get  All will be evealed in the next exciting episode of "tooley street"  (que bum bum bums)
    • Noticed the bollard (big bell shaped one) has again been torn up. Wonder how many times this has happened over the years and how much it's cost.
