Hi! We are moving next week to se23 and have still not been able to find a daycare or nursery for our toddler. He goes twice a week at our current location and given the rumours I've heard online, I'm very worried we won't get a place for him in east dulwich/forest hill even in January (I've resigned myself to the fact that it is probably too late now to get a place for dec).

I'm looking for reviews and recommendations - mostly nurseries or preschools around the horniman/fairlawn area. Still not used to the hilly roads so would like one as close as possible! Even slipped once walking down honor oak road in trainers on a wet day!!

Any other ideas? I've heard of magic moments in east dulwich and a messy play group near sainsbury's forest hill, but would appreciate any information about the area. Thanks a bunch!

Also, where is the closest high st where you can shop for clothes, non-grocery stuff?

Thanks again.

Welcome to SE23! We are in Honor Oak and the two preschools that I have heard lots of good things about are Busy as Bees in St Saviours hall and Chelwood nursery school on the Brockley side of Honor Oak. Neither is right around the corner from you but may still be worth checking out! When I enquired with them a year ago for a place for my son both had spaces for some of their sessions. Also, there are lots of childminders in the area.

How about you join the SE23 Mums FB page, I am sure you will find lots of advice there!

Hi, we're also moving to HOP early next year (not far from the station) and have a 4.5 yr old and a 9 month old. We're currently looking for a nursery place for the youngest. Oak Tree is pretty oversubscribed as far as i can tell, can anyone recommend any other good nurseries or childminders in the area. Any advice is greatly appreciated! many thanks

    • Some P13 drivers appear very risk averse. I live in Underhill and on that road drivers are forced to back away, often considerable distances, from buses to allow them to pass, even when the bus has an immediate space it could back into. The driver at the time said that buses 'weren't allowed to back'. So reports of cars 'blocking' P13s might mean simply that the car was legally parked but the road too narrow,or the bus driver not prepared to risk advancing. NB some P13 drivers are both skilled and courteous, but not all.
    • I’ve experienced the same in Herne Hill. It’s definitely linked to where there are already marked bays, it prevents you from parking within approx 200-400 metres around the bay. Dulwich Village has quite a few bays, which probably explains why you’ve noticed it there and not elsewhere.
    • They are quick enough to issue tickets why can they not tow it away. How many people waited at bus stops for no bus.
