Mojo Audio

A warning about the guy called Joe who runs Mojo Audio, the basement electronics workshop on Lordship Lane. He took an antique record player from me last summer, promised to repair it, then after fobbing me off with one tale after another for months, admitted that he had removed some of the parts and lost them. He then refused to refund my cash deposit.

It's a long time since I've had dealings with such an incompetent and dishonest individual.

His landlord, who runs the cafe above the workshop, tells me that he too has had problems with Joe and that he's evicting him next month. But if he turns up in the neighbourhood again, I would suggest that people steer well clear of him.

This happened to me and my boyfriend too!

We took our Pioneer 7300 amp to Mojo on Lordship Lane to be repaired in Oct 2014. We had to pay a ?20 deposit, expecting it back with in a few weeks.

We heard nothing from him in that time, called him, and he made promises to call us back when it was done. This cycle went on for about 5 months, still haven't got our amp/money back, just empty promises.

Thinking of reporting it as stolen at this point.

The Mojo business is associated with Jon E B GOOD Audio repair (though they tried to downplay this association when I called them for help getting my amp back)

We are both earning minimum wage too, so it's not cheap for us just to lose ?20 at all or make the expensive decision to get our amp fixed.

Weirdly I found Jo to be a pretty decent guy. He leant me a load of kit for next to nothing and really helped me out.

To be frank the warning signs were there if you went into his workshop - it was a real ramshackle alladin's cave of stuff all piled up and him just working in the corner with a soldering iron.

Because of this I don't think would have trusted him with money/ anything remotely expensive/ precious but his hand-made valve amps really looked the business.

Im certainly not condoning in any way what he's done with the above posters; just wanted to say I thought he seemed an ok albeit highly disorganised hermit-like chap.

No excuse but I doubt he made much money out of his business and most passing trade just wouldn't know he existed at all.

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
