Toddlers & Xmas trees?!

I love a real Xmas tree but ... Will my 2 year toddler vandalise it? Thoughts from experienced mums welcomed before I fork out on a real one. Thanks family room

mine never did, but then our cats have never bothered much with our tree either, so perhaps we're a bit unusual in this regard!

Set down the ground rules as soon as the tree goes up, a 2 year old is old enough to understand. I didn't have trouble with any of my kids (the cat is a different story, he enjoys pulling tinsel off and taking it with him into the garden!)

Never has any trouble with our 18 month old last year.

No trouble last year with our then 2 year old. I only bought/made wooden, plastic and paper decorations as a few 'fell' off, but otherwise fine.

My son was/is the kind of baby/toddler/child that I thought would make it impossible to have a tree up but he has always been really good with it. It has been so lovely to see his excitement for it too. Its worth a shot, you can always take it down.x

My 2 year old regularly swings the decorations on it (and goes "swiiiiing") and took the tinsel off too but we keep saying no and he is being a bit better. I have a 5 year old too who loves it and for me it's unthinkable not to have a Christmas tree in December (I am a Christmas freak) so you just have to say no and they eventually learn... One tip, no breakable baubles at the bottom of it and you should be fine! Happy Christmas x

My nearly 2 year old demolished all the tree chocolates whilst I was out the room for five mins last year....so definitely worth putting any edible decorations up high!

This is what we bought last year. I know my 2 year old son would pull the tree down!

We have got a smaller tree this year and put it on a table to keep it out of reach of a 10 month old terror!

Thanks all for the tips. Tree up and ground rules explained. Toddler currently in awe and not even touched it. Lets see in 3 weeks time!
