Changing internal layout of flat.

Hello

We have just bought our first flat in Peckham.

We are keen to change the internal layout. As it is a converted space many there are quite a few stud walls. We were hoping to knock these down and make the space more open plan - or even add another bedrom

My question is - who do we ask for advice on redesigning the space? A builder? An architect? Can anyone recommend someone local?

you'll need a design of what you want to create - an architect will do this

you will need a structural engineer to assess whether the walls you want to knock down are load bearing, and to design possible beams to be installed

then you'll need a builder to do the actual work. if installing steel beams is involved you'll need a specialist firm.

you'll also need building control approval of the engineer's plans, as well as inspections during the work.
