Male Chicken is my phrase of choice

Tragic comes to mind

END

My shop was at 13 Uplands Road. I have mentioned it before in several threads

as I was one of the only shops open at the time. 1993

My company and shop was Called 'Seasonal Supplies Ltd.'

It was previously Ictons ??? a Sunbed place. and before that A Cycle Shop for many years.

I did not want to take out a 14 year lease as business was not good. A bit isolated.

So I got out.. Now 2 flats .

I think a couple of you are being a bit harsh on foxy - (arguably) tiresome discussion of grilling methods doesn't make anyone a "dick". But nevertheless, I'm on the pro-Hisar/charcoal side of the argument... but neither establishment is exactly uh-mazing. FM Mangal kebabs are infinitely better if you find yourself on that side of the hill.

And "Asian Takeaway" on Rye Lane is great. I'm not exactly sure what style of Asian food this is, but it's damn good... lamb kofta or chicken tikka, wrapped in freshly made naan.

Went to FM Mangal last night based on recommendations on this thread. Fantastic food (probably some of the best Turkish I have had outside of Turkey) but the service was a joke. Booked a table for two for 8:15pm, arrived and there was a queue of people trying to get a table. Couple in front of us had not booked but were seated straight away. We waited for about 20 minutes for our table. Once seated, no one asked us if we wanted a drink for about another 10 minutes. Eventually got a drink at 9:00pm. Rest of the service was very slow.

I would go back, but I would try to go back on a quieter night.

FM Mangal food is fantastic, but the place is massively busy at the weekends, so it is best to avoid. The service can be a bit abrupt! We often phone ahead to order a takeaway and then go and deliver - we've found it we leave it after 7pm on a Friday/Saturday they will often refuse to take our order.

Just wanted to share our wonderful experience here yesterday afternoon..

I've been meaning to try Hisar for a while and popped in yesterday for the first time. The staff were absolutely lovely, the food was delicious and reasonably priced and the atmosphere was great. A real gem on Lordship Lane and I will definitely be back!

    • Also, as discussed on another thread, that particular  assailant was possibly (we don't know)  mentally ill. Whereas I'm guessing most crimes locally are   committed for money, (ie things that can be sold), food (if someone is really desperate, or to sell) or just pure mischief (like the recent goings on on Peckham Rye). I'm a 76 year old woman, and I feel safe on the streets, and I frequently go to Central London. If you seriously don't feel safe living here, why on earth don't you go and live somewhere else?! It's absolute nonsense to say London is lawless, and it's absolute nonsense to say the police stand by and do nothing. There will always be crime. It used to be cutpurses and highwaymen. And organised gangs of thieves. And people like Jack the Ripper.
    • No it is not, it is a fact whether you like it or not. Do you feel safe on the streets, because I don't, do you go too central London, I don't as I don't feel safe. No one knows if someone is i) carrying a weapon or a knife and ii) you don't know what will trigger them to use it. So feel free to live in your bubble, but the reality is London is lawless and the police stand by and do nothing.
    • Leon responded quickly to my online enquiry and to follow-up texts when arranging a date for the work. He replaced a faulty switch for my outdoor sensor light. I expected it would be difficult to find an electrician willing to take on such a small job. So I was really pleased to find Leon and would definitely recommend him.
    • I would not use anyone else, he now does my son and daughters boiler services and my own. He recently replaced a very old boiler and it all went well with a year guarantee.  Such a lovely person to deal with too. Very good value for money!  I couldn’t recommend him more highly.
