East Dulwich/Peckham Rye/Nunhead Border's outrage !!!

Recommended Posts

Just walked in to this new children's centre, Rye Oak to find amongst the leaflet holders for childrens and toddlers activities there was a bunch of fresh flyers for a ......wait for it......a football academy at West Ham United ! surely someone is taking a bleeding liberty or what ? The iron's south of the River , iron's, river, south ? Christ almightly how many of those dribbling halfwits in their bugger boo's have unwittingly gazed at those claret colors and thought "i will have some of that when i grow up", it's an outrage, how many yummy mummy's or liberal daddies have slipped that flyer into there handbags or man pouches and wondered into a tambourine session unaware of the possible seditious piece of ethnic cleansing they are carrying around on their person, more than likely to bring it through their lilac painted front doors to wreak more havoc amongst their children and heirs. It a fucking liberty and no mistake.

One of the few things I know about this football thingy is that West Ham sing that song because they used to have a player called Bubbles something or other. They must have really like him. :-S

Mockney? Quids? Can you shed any light on this?

Are they that team that was created a few years ago so that estate agents would have someone to support? And they play in a shed? Bummer, I knew times were hard and all but that?s terrible. Maybe they should apply to the government for one of them bailouts.

The what now? Is West Ham not the local club? I know geographically Milwall and Crystal Palace are near by, but what if somebody wants to taste some actual success?

I've no idea; I follow the egg instead, round balls just don't seem natural.

    • If it's the same one I'm thinking of, it was a little further down the road towards LL, probably where the Fresh Flower Company is today. I'd forgotten all about it, with good reason. I think it disappeared before Blue Mountain opened and became a pizza place? I once bought a carton of milk from the deli and when I opened it, it was solid. I did get my money back though.
    • But when was it posted?! I haven't posted any this year. I can't bring myself to pay the exorbitant cost of the stamps, and at least I can sort of honestly blame it on illness. If I can't hand deliver them, I send e-cards. I know it's not the same, but it's very much easier. And as for the people who still send pages of closely handwritten letters .... very admirable in terms of the hours it must have taken them to write them,  but they remind me of those spoofs eg x has just passed all their many important exams with the highest marks possible, y has just walked round the world in a week, z has just become the first person ever to be knighted twice, we are about to fly off for our fifteenth exotic holiday this year ....... Or else (or sometimes and) they are full of who has had what illnesses and accidents and other catastrophes. Is this just my relatives and distant friends? Am I somehow attracting these reams of handwritten paper?
    • Oh, I didn't know that! I didn't move here till 1991 (I think) but the NCR incarnation must have been around that time? Unless my failing memory is even worse than I thought it was, sob.
    • I just googled, and apparently there's another branch of the Soho Street Govinda's  in Theobald's Road. I had no idea.
