Shambles, sorry, was in a persecuted mood this morning having just read a load of anti-child and parent bile elsewhere on EDF. My opinion of the old Herne stands though, I live on St Aidans and the previous landlords of the pub were very bad neighbours - twice letting catering oil spill onto the pavement, then leaving it to stink up that end of the street. But Again, sorry, wasn't meaning to be personal.

yeh they were probably left home alone while mum and dad had a great night down the club chuckling away to the harmless humour of bernard manning et al.

kids in pubs/restuarants is a obviously a sore point with many of you but somehow i feel that parent(s) bringing little jack or jill in for a bite to eat is more than acceptable.you have to appreciate that at their tender age they do tend to lack the finer aspects of pub etiqutte and may from time to time be a little loud and disruptive but if you pays your way!!!! where i draw the line is when you have 6 snotty nosed brats all < 2yrs old let loose in an establishment and fed a diet of crisps and coke while their 19yr old parents gently absolve themselves of all responsibility in a lake of alcopops and marlboro lights throughout the course of the day.thats wrong.

By the way - If you go to the Herne after 6pm, you will find it pleasantly child free and they are now doing food on Sunday evenings.

In addition, I know that they are turning the outside barn into a bar / BBQ / grill area, so there are plenty of reasons to keep the dining room / bar area child free. Have a word in the (New) managers ear. I'm sure they will listen as kids don't pay the bills - nor do the mums nursing a 1/2 of lime & soda for 2 hrs. They need local 'dinkies' who have 3 hr lunches with 2 bottles of wine a head.

    • Two wrongs don't make a right. Labour ran on a manifesto of "we aren't like them" and "we are different" and"you can trust us/we will restore faith in politics". They are doing nothing to convince anyone that any of those promises are being met - they are letting everyone down. u-turning on everything and are fast-tracking the doomsday scenario of a Reform government. Even the runway on the "it's all the Tories fault" is running out. I dislike politicians because they cannot be trusted and Rayner just highlighted that with ribbons on. She should have been so careful after the focus on the electoral roll issues she had with the house in Ashton-under-Lyne and then under a year later this comes up. Clearly the advice she took included a recommendation to take proper advice that she failed to do - that's just daft and the most galling thing is that she didn't just resign when this came up - she tried to spin out of it but must have known she was toast. Trust is fast being eroded. I desperately want Labour and Starmer to fix this because the alternative it too scary to think about but the way things are going they are fast-tracking Farage into No.10. Labour are letting us all down.
    • Same can be said for the current and prior governments

    • So you are also old enough to remember the Heath Out protest by the TUC when unemployment hit 1 million? We all have selective memories, this thread is no different. Please give me a list of the Labour sleaze. And compare it to the Tories.  There are a few of you who appear to have a long term dislike of Labour, so all this is a gift.
